damn fantasy baseball

Its so frustrating. You work so hard all season long and it can all come crashing down in 1 week of playoffs.
My team dominated all season long, behind the 40 HR seasons of Albert Pujols and Carlos Beltran, as well as the all around hitting of Chase Utley, Miguel Tejada, Garrett Atkins, Johnny Damon, and Matt Holliday.

Then comes the playoffs and these guys combine to hit just under .230 for me with 1 HR and 16 rbi for the week. So sad.

And then my pitching, all season I relied on the superb closing ability of Mariano Rivera and Jonathon Papelbon. Then they both get shut down and I of course get rocked in saves.

So again, this game is so damn frustrating and yet i'll still be back for more next year.

OK, wait a minute. You had Pujols, so obviously you had the #1 or #2 pick. That means the draft came all the way back around and Beltran was sitting there at last pick of the 2nd round?

I want in your league next season.

Same here - best overall record only to lose Manny, Hafner and Liriano for the playoffs. The guy I played had Chris Carpenter go twice, winning both times with 1 run given up and 15 k's. My guys pitched great (1.6 ERA 0.92 Whip) but I lost both categories. Worst thing is that in the other semi-finals, the guy with the 2nd best record only had to play the #6 seed (I played the #3 seed) and beat him easily. Unfortunately I would have beaten both teams handily in the other semifinal.

Oh well - I get my $100 back and the two final teams get either $350 or $550.

It was a 10 team league and beltran actually lasted till the 4th round. Dont forget, beltran had an only okay year last year. My pitching was nasty but unfortunately, my opponents was better. I had drafted Liriano, Verlander, Zumaya, and Papelbon who all panned out real nice in addition to Zambrano, Bedard, Mariano, and Hoffman.

In the playoffs I had an ERA of 2.07 and WHIP of 1.03 but was edged out in both.

Huh, yeah, I just looked and he was drafted in the third round of my 12 team league. I guess the MVP talk has clouded my pre-draft hindsight.

That's the reason I avoid head/head leagues. Have you done a cumulative league before?

It is the finals for us the rest of the week. And would you know it, Dan Haren, Livan Hernandez and Matt Cain picked this week to have their worst games of the reason.

I was more surprised that he had Pujols and Tejada, who goes high in every league I've been in the past couple seasons.

C'mon, as a Yankees fan you have to be used to this kind of thing happening over the past five years.

Yeah, I know. I have picked Tejada first (like 5th or 6th overall) for like 3 straight seasons.

I've dominated my league this season with 3 or 4 quality SPs, 1 highly drafted closer (Wagner) and two other pickups (Saito and Otsuka) and an offense run by Miguel Cabrera and 4 or 5 leadoff type guys....I still have no idea how Im pulling it off half the time. Now Im down to the two week championship where its basically a crapshoot with the 3rd best record from the season.

I do 12 team AL-Only leagues and had Matsui and Harden as my #3&2 picks. First pick overall, so got A-Rod, but essentially my season was over a lot earlier than others. Guys like Erstad and Mineknkewlrxzc contributed to my 10th place finish.
