Need to reload game, don't want to lose universe

Any helps on how to do this? Right now the game is just going much to slowly to even play it (2 minutes per day is rediculous).

I know I need to create a backup, and uninstall the game, delete everything, then reinstall, but how do I get my universe back?

Just create another full copy of your league folder and keep it somewhere on your hard drive, separate from the OOTP directory. Reinstall the game and then copy the folder into your saved games directory in the OOTP directory. When you load OOTP, you can click 'load league' and select your league.

However, I doubt that this will solve your problem. It's probably because you have asked the game to save all box scores and game logs, are using full finances, have a pretty large universe, and/or you've got a lack of RAM on your machine.

Actually, none of that is true. With 1.0.2 my game was flying, however the minute I downloaded 1.0.3, the game began crawling.

But thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

It could be coincidence Mattymo, but I recently increased the startup and speed (not that it was terrible to begin with, but it had other problems) by running a defrag utility and shutting down the AV. Like you, I hadn't had any real problems until the later builds. So far, so good.

Having created and deleted a TON of leagues experimenting through Beta +, I had data scattered all over the place at a whopping 28% defragged. I can't say it's a panacea, but it might not hurt to check and see if it helps at all.

As to your league protection, Charlie's probably right on the money with the idea of making a copy of the full league folder. If you're where I was, that is a long process too. It took me a long time just to get the right-click menu to appear for my options. Keep us posted.

I'd recommend running a scan on your computer from www.pcpitstop.com. Your slow down could be related to the new OOTP or it could be something else. Best to look at more than just one area.

Sorry I haven't had an opportunity to do any of this until this morning...

I copied my league folder (which took about 2 hours), moved it to my desktop, uninstalled the game, then reinstalled the game. However, when I click on my league folder I get a message that it's not accessible, and that it's being used by another process. When I click on properties it's a "read-only" file and it's basically empty. Not sure what I did wrong, but looks like I need to start over.

I did the same thing last night, copying my game to the desktop, only because I wanted to back it up before renaming the folder and thus the game. It did not take 2 hours, however! A good 10-15 minutes, perhaps (MAL + 8 independent leagues). Total folder size: 719MB.

I had already renamed the game. After reading your post, however, I checked my copy folder. My properties also say read only, so that's probably not the problem. I moved it back into saved games and was able to start it with no difficulty.

I think the slowness of your PC and the folder being empty (Size on Disk: 0MB?) are clues that you have more than problems with the game, Mattymo. Well, hopefully you saved your game as a quickstart . . .

Not sure if this will help but see this post from f montoya on some things you can do to boost performance and remove resource hogs. I found it helpful.

Thanks guys, I did all that...and my leave WAS saved and up and running. But it's still slow, and I think I figured out why...Whenever I load the game, or close the game, it goes very quickly until it gets to "loading/saving messages", then it can take up to 5 minutes. Now I don't have it saving any manager messages (I'm just simming), but is there any possible way to have it stop saving league messages? With 3 leagues, including minors, there's a lot of messages there that I really don't need, or want. But I haven't found a way to delete them.
