OOTP Observations
Just thought I'd chime in on my observations from playing nearly an entire season game by game. I am playing a fictional league with 5 levels of minors and an inaugural draft. So far, I've had very few problems and am enjoying the game immensely. But here are the observations of mine that could use some work.
1. Injuries seem to cause permanent loss of ratings 30-50% of the time, which seems a little excessive. With the bug causing rapid ratings loss (to be fixed in 1.03), my observations may be somewhat clouded. 2. When swapping out a new pitcher in the line-ups screen, the opposing teams line-ups never change to reflect a switch from a RHP to a LHP. No version of OOTP has ever worked in this regard and it really shouldn't be that difficult to make it work. 3. Advancement of baserunners algorithms are not accurate. Runners score from second to home less that half the time. This number should be closer to 70 - 75% of the time. The percentage of runners thrown out also seems to be excessive. 4. IBB occur without regard to situation. Winning and tying runs are nearly always walked if first is open. The AI has lost many a game against me with this strategy. 5. Waiver wire is a gold mine! I'm not finding superstars, but certainly usable players that have no business being cut. 6. Can't take players off 40-man roster with major league salary, even if they've cleared waivers. At least for players with renewable contracts, this should be allowed. 7. Errors always result in zero outs. Not a big deal, but noticable. Lots of double play situations where the botch is always the initial handle. 8. Low end free agents (30-31 rating) will not entertain minor league contracts, even after sitting unemployed for nearly an entire season. 9. Still wish I had a mode to sim half inning OR until a batter reaches base. I like to play out games, but want to speed to the parts that matter. 10. I wish I could filter by the contract columns, such as options remaining, major league and secondary roster years. Would really like to filter inaugural draft and free agents with these filters. Thanks for a great game, guys! |

Good list. You should post more often.

Used to miss the stars but with overall ratings I no longer miss the stars. Overall ratings are a better and more accurate way to judge a player

Good stuff. These should be added to the Tech Support board so that they can be fixed in the next patch.

Thanks for the insights, FYI the ability to sim half innings is still present on the bottom menu bar on the in game screen.

1)Thanks for the post. Have you look see at the suggestions forum? 2) Post more often, as you are making very fine points. 3) RE: your point #1. It is accurate to say your observations are clouded. |

Don't understand the half inning request, though. Don't we already have that? Edit - oops, missed Steve's confirmation of that. Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 08-28-2006 at 12:08 PM. |

Yeah, I don't post all that much! I do cruise the forums regularly, though.
The idea of this game has been a dream of mine since I was a kid many moons ago. I don't have alot of time on my hands now, so when I do find an evening, it's playing rather than posting. I do appreciate the work alot of you put into testing, etc. There was a time in my life (before the internet) that I also would have been a "major league" poster. BTW, the button I was looking for was sim half inning OR until baserunner reaches. You may want pinch hitters for pitchers, etc later in the game if the sim kept going until someone reached two or three innings later. |

He means: half an inning OR until a runner reaches base, whichever comes first. ...which I would really like. You could cruise along until there was trouble, or an opportunity. Many times I've clicked that "half inning" option, and seen a big number pop up for the opponent. I'd have pulled the pitcher, if I had the chance. And that's only one scenario. |

In P3, the columns "ML Yrs", "ML Days", "Sec Yrs", "Sec Days", "Pro Yrs" and "Options used" are available. Dunno if they were just added or not.
The columns have always been available for view, but were missing from the filter column list for some reason. Are you saying they are in the filter list in P3? Also, I wish the days would be the remainder displayed in the contract screen rather than 172 * years + days |
