How crazy is this? (fantasy football related)

Had my draft last night in our 16 team league. The league has been around for 4 seasons now with pretty much the same owners. We pick our draft order out of a hat each year and I ended up with the 3rd pick. The 3rd pick this year is extremely easy - you take whoever's left out of the big 3 running backs, which for me was LT.

So now I'm doing research during the next 27 picks, waiting to see if any kind of running back falls to me at #30. I'm hoping for someone like Willie Parker or Chester Taylor. Parker goes in the first round but as the picks start to get into the mid 20's, a run on wide receivers starts. The run continued as the guy picking before me in round 2 takes Reggie Wayne. So there I am at pick #30 and I was shocked to see who was still sitting there. Yes Chester Taylor was still there, but so was Clinton Freakin' Portis!! I know he has a dinged shoulder and they just traded for Duckett but c'mon, how could I pass on him??? Apparently his injury scared off everyone in front of me. The two guys picking after me at the end of round 2 were praying I'd let him go by but both knew there's no way you pass on Portis at the 30th pick.

Anyway, I end up going Boldin in the 3rd and somehow got Frank Gore in the 4th (I've seen him as a 2nd rounder in most big leagues). Also ended up picking up Duckett so cover myself, so overall I'm pretty happy with how it all worked out.

Any other draft war stories out there? (and no, not Vietnam draft war stories!)

Well, I hope Portis does very well for you this year... because in my first draft this year, my connection lagged out and Portis defaulted to me in the first round.

By the time, i manuevered enough to replace these busts with Matt Hasselback, Stephen Jackson, Ron Brown and Larry Fitzgerald my season was down the drain.
