Post Double Play Totals

Has anyone else noticed this.....On the team fielding report, it looks like double plays are being counted twice or more in the team totals. For instance, if a DP went SS to 2B to 1B, the individual fielding stats would show a DP for the SS, one for the 2B and one for the 1B. But in the team totals, rather than just counting 1 DP, it would total the individual stats and show a total of 3 when only one occurred.

This was pointed out in a thread a few weeks ago.

The value of DP shown in the team fielding totals is the sum of all DP accumulated by the fielders. So a 6-4-3 would count as 3 DP.

Team Double Play totals in OOTP4 have improved greatly over OOTP3. It shows only the total number of team DP's, not combining all of the players involved in each one as it did before.

I still find the total number of DP's to be higher than the MLB average per season. In my 1924 season DP's were 20% higher than the actual number. To lower that figure, I adjusted the groundball percentage rating of pitchers on the general rating screen. I found too many pitchers rated 60%-70%. MLB figures I got from MLB.COM WEBSTIE showed the most pitchers to be 45%-55% with a few pitchers showing 55%-65%. OOTP4 seems to put most pitchers in at 50%-60% (many at 57%, which seems to be a default rating) and quite a number 60%-70%.

I made my ratings lower than OOTP4 and made most of the pitchers in the 45%-55% range with only a few in the 55%-65% range. This worked well in my 1925 season where I had 2529 DP's, while the real MLB has 2429 DP's.

IF YOU WANT TO LOWER THE NUMBER OF DOUBLE PLAYS, TRY ADJUSTING THE PITCHERS' GROUNDBALL PERCENTAGE RATING ON THE GENERAL SCREEN OF THE PLAYER EDITOR.
