Historical league with REAL PCL, Negro Leagues and Japan Leagues has openings
![]() Greatest Generations Baseball, an OOTP 2006 historical league starting in 1936 has several openings. What makes GGB unique (so far as I know) is that it includes the real PCL, Negro Leagues and Japan leagues circa 1936. Each group has its own database, using real stats to model these leagues as they existed. The databases are being built as the league goes. Once we get far enough in, I will release these dbs to the community so that others can also have leagues with these guys in it. Right now only the players active in 1936 have been created. Because these databases is a lengthy and time-consuming process, building a year at a time makes sense. Now about the league itself: All leagues are set to ML-level. For purposes of the league, we're having the PCL declare itself a third major league and it will compete directly for players with the AL and NL, which in turn will also be able to pull players out of the full PCL pool. MLB and PCL players may play in MLB, the PCL and potentially Japan (down the road a bit, most likely) Negro Leaguers can ONLY play in the Negro Leagues (until 1947 - more on that later) Japanese players can only play in Japan (for the foreseeable future) Japanese teams have a max of 4 foreign players per team We're using financials and will have free agency to spice things up. We're allowing GMs to run a team in both of the two groups (MLB/PCL in one group, Japan/Negro in the other group). Since there is no crossover of players between Japan and the Negro leagues into the MLB/PCL world (yet), there will be no conflict of interest. Sims will be run three times a week, 15 game days per sim. You must have OOTP 2006 to join the league. That covers most of the basics. If you have questions, feel free to post here, so that everyone can see the question and the answer. Right now, these are the available teams: GROUP ONE MLB - Boston Braves PCL - Oakland Oaks, Seattle Rainiers, Los Angeles Angels, Mission Reds, San Francisco Seals, Sacramento Solons GROUP TWO Japan - Nagoya Golden Dolphins, Dai Tokyo Lions Negro Leagues - Memphis Red Sox As you can see, there are more teams in Group One than in Group Two. That's because there are fewer teams in Group Two. But there will be expansion in both leagues over the next few seasons, and GMs locked out of a second team would get first crack at these expansion teams. BTW - I'll be extremely impressed if anyone can name all five of the people in the league banner. Of the five, three are fairly easy, one is somewhat difficult and the last, the manager, is probably almost impossible for most people. They represent all four of the leagues in GGB. One hint - ALL of them are Hall-of-Famers.

Further Update on available teams:
PCL - Oakland Oaks, Mission Reds, San Francisco Seals, Sacramento Solons Japan - Nagoya Golden Dolphins, Dai Tokyo Lions NOTE: The Mission Reds become the Hollywood Stars in 1938. The Nagoya Golden Dolphins will eventually become the current-day Fukuoka Hawks and the Dai Tokyo Lions will eventually become the current-day Seibu Lions. Also, keep in mind you can elect to run two teams (ie., the Seals and the Golden Dolphins, for example).

Bumping and adding that the website is much more robust now - check out "page two" off the homepage for more info on the workings of this league.
GOOD Pacific Coast League teams are still available, as well as the Nagoya Golden Dolphins, the final Japan League team until the expansion of 1950...

How are the databases for these leagues being built? What's the original source of information on the players? Are you also adjusting ratings and potentials as determined by the game?
Also, what happens in future years when all leagues begin expanding? Will there be enough players to go around? And can the database production keep up with simulation seasons? |

For Japan, it's essentially the same, except the books are not TSN guides, obviously. The Negro Leaguers are more of a challenge. I work for MLB.com and produced a documentary "Negro Leagues Legacy" for which I had to do a lot of research and with help from the Hall of Fame, got my hands on a lot of statistics on which to build a small percentage of the players (the elite guys) - the rest I had to rely on secondary, non-statistical sources to flesh out. These are also MLE'd to compensate for the slightly lower level of play in the Negro Leagues. I created full career database entries (ie - all seasons in every career) for all the players active across MLB, PCL, Negro Leagues and Japan in 1936, so the potentials should also be correct. Quote:
Your point about the database is a valid one - the good news is that creating the rookies each season will be a LOT less work than it was creating the 1000+ non-MLB players for the first season. Also the league will probably take about 3 months to get through a season, so that should be plenty of time for me to create the rookies and add them to the databases. Those are good questions and I'm glad they were asked.

Just two teams now available - the Mission Reds and Sacramento Solons (both in PCL). The Reds will become the Hollywood Stars in 1938.

Mission Reds
I'll take the Mission Reds...I was wondering if we could move to Hollywood in 1936, rather than in 1938...

That leaves the Sacramento Solons as the last team standing...
