NYJ45's Historictional Baseball Universe
NYJ45's HISTORICAL/FICTIONAL UNIVERSE
OVERVIEW I have decided to start up a historictional (combo historical/fictional universe) and have decided to do a dynasty report as I have been inspired by many of the other great ones on the board and I miss doing them, as I have always been an avid Madden/NCAA dynasty reporter. I also have found, that when I do one of these I tend to get more entrenched in the league/world and find myself enjoying it more. I know it takes alot of work, but I have never minded that, and since my goal is to do this for 120+ yrs, I obviously will not be going as indepth as I did with the 16/12 game seasons of the NFL/NCAA football. UNIVERSE BACKGROUND My league starts in the year of 1900 (with all fictional players) and consists of a real-life model MLB (complete with all 30 teams) as well as 1 Rookie-A ball minor league affiliate (International League) for each major league team. The historical players will import only into the MLB amatuer draft, starting with the 1901 crop of players. There is also an international league based in Japan called the [league redacted] League and this league would have talent levels equal to that of today's AAA talent. Finally, we have a winter league in Mexico (Mexico Winter League), whose talent levels would be comparable to today's AA leagues. The leagues would be allowed to trade players and sign FA's of each league. My goal here is to have 3 seperate leagues with their own history, however I hope to have a nice mix of Historical "real" players as well as fictional players who may/may not turn into legends of their own. Ideally, the MLB, and it's rookie league affiliates, would be home to most of the all-time greats (Ruth, Mantle, Koufax, Bonds, Pedro, etc) as well as the cream of the crop of the fictional players and the rookie minor league teams would have the top prospects who aren't quite ready for the majors. The Nippin International league would be a nice mix of solid fictional players, as well as the historical imported players who aren't quite making the grade in the MLB, but can be stars in Japan and make a decent salary there, more so than what they would make as a backup in the MLB. The Mexican Winter league would be home to mostly fictional players, but mixed in would be imported players at the tail end of their careers who aren't quite ready to hang it up, and the little used players who all baseball fans have some type of emotional attachment to, but in real life would only see the field once or twice a week (example: Mets fans loved Benny Agbayani, the fat Hawaiian OF who really didn't have much talent but would draw plenty of "Benny Benny" chants whenever he played and did well. Benny could be a star in Mexico). Will all of this work as I intend to, I'm not quite sure. On paper, it seems like it should, but even with the patch fixing the "bugs" of the game, no one has really been able to tell me if this is a feasible idea, or if it is going to be in shambles, so I'm going to test it out. Also, I have decided, since I will be using both fictional and historical players, to go the entire length of the dynasty using today's modern day league setting (5 man rotations, use of bullpens, home run hitters, etc) Below is a table listing background/rules/information on each league: Code:

ADDED TWIST I have learned from a fellow Historical simmer (OldTimer) that the players who are already "in the league" as of 1901 do not import into the 1901 draft class. This was however pre-patch, but I do not think that was addressed. So I went back into my OOTP 6.5 game and simmed 1901-1904 and came up with a list of guys who put up excellent stats who will probably not import into the game in 1901. IF they do not, as an added twist, I will manually import them (circa 1901) into the Japan and Mexican leagues to give these leagues some immediate "name power". Below is the list of players who will be assigned to the drafts in Japan and/or Mexico assuming they do not import: Code:

Next up will be a preview of each league in it's infantcy state, followed by an initial preview of each one of "my" teams in each league. Following, I will jump right into the 1900 season. I plan on doing 3 reports a year. A pre-season preview, a mid-season report, and a end of season report...1 for each league and each team I control within that league. I hope you're interested and will be reading and I do appreciate any comments or questions you might have.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL (MLB)
LEAGUE BACKGROUND - Based out of the USA & Canada - Level of Competition: Majors (highest level/talent) - Minor Leagues: 1 level, Rookie A Ball - Salary Cap: $125,000,000 (for organization) - Rules: Current MLB rules/settings (DH in AL, no DH in NL) - 30 teams, 162 game season - Playoff structure: Wildcard Round (Best of 5), Division Round (Best of 7), World Series (Best of 7) Code:
American League Standings Eastern Division Team Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox New York (A) Yankees Tampa Bay Devil Rays Toronto Blue Jays Central Division Team Chicago (A) White Sox Cleveland Indians Detroit Tigers Kansas City Royals Minnesota Twins Western Division Team Los Angeles (A) Angels Oakland Athletics Seattle Mariners Texas Rangers National League Standings Eastern Division Team Atlanta Braves Florida Marlins New York (N) Mets Philadelphia Phillies Washington Nationals Central Division Team Chicago (N) Cubs Cincinnati Reds Houston Astros Milwaukee Brewers Pittsburgh Pirates St. Louis Cardinals Western Division Team Arizona Diamondbacks Colorado Rockies Los Angeles (N) Dodgers San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants MY TEAM BACKGROUND New York Mets - League: National League / East Division - Minor League Affiliate: State College Spikes (controlled by computer) - City: New York, NY - Ballpark: Shea Stadium - Capacity: 59,000 - I have been a Mets fan since a kid, and always control them when I do leagues. Since this is a historical/fictional league, the only thing that really stays consistent is the team name and NL East rivals. I have decided not to control my own minor league affiliate, as I feel leaving the computer control it will be more realistic and they will determine who plays/develops/etc, however I will control all trades and promotions so I will have final say on our minor league roster.

[league redacted] LEAGUE (***)
LEAGUE BACKGROUND - Based out of Japan - Level of Competition: International (AAA level/talent) - Minor Leagues: none - Salary Cap: $75,000,000 - Rules: Current MLB rules/settings (DH in both leagues) - 12 teams, 146 game season - Playoff structure: Championship (Best of 7) - I have decided on the Japanese International league as I feel this would be the 2nd highest level of baseball next to the MLB. I have the real names/logos of all but 1 team, which I let the game generate the team nickname and logo. Code:
Pacific League Standings Team Chiba Lotte Marines Fukuoka Daiei Hawks Nippon Fighters Orix Buffaloes Seibu Lions Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas Central League Standings Team Chunichi Dragon Hanshin Tiger Hiroshima Toyo Carp Yakult Swallows Yokohama Bay Stars Yomiuri Giants MY TEAM BACKGROUND Yomiuri Giants - League: Central League - Minor League Affiliate: n/a - City: Yomiuri, Japan - Ballpark: Ballpark of Yomiuri - Capacity: 44,000 - I decided on the Giants mainly because I think they are the most well known of all the Japanese teams, and because of all the stadiums in Japans, this one seems to be the most "hitter friendly" which I will use as the basis for building my team.

MWL - Background info
MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE (MWL)
LEAGUE BACKGROUND - Based out of Mexico - Level of Competition: Winter (AA level/talent) - Minor Leagues: none - Salary Cap: $50,000,000 - Rules: Current MLB rules/settings (no DH) - 8 teams, 68 game season - Playoff structure: Championship (Best of 5) - I mainly picked the Mexican leagues as it had the best setup of the winter leagues for what I was looking for (1 division, 8-10 teams, short season). I could not find the real nicknames or logos of the teams in the leagues, so I used the real cities and let the game generate nicknames and logos. Code:
Team Culiacan Moths Guasave Hippies Hermosillo Victorians Mazatlan Black Hawks Mexicali Leopards Mochis Wranglers Navojoa Chameleons Obregon Orangemen MY TEAM BACKGROUND Mazatlan Black Hawks - League: n/a - Minor League Affiliate: n/a - City: Mazatlan, Sinaloa - Ballpark: Ballpark of Mazatlan - Capacity: 26,000 - I picked the Black Hawks mainly for cosmetic reasons. #1 best nickname, #2 best colors (black & orange), however upon closer inspections, Mazatlan actually has the most "pitcher friendly" park in the league, which is a nice contrast to my team in Japan and will use that as the basis for making roster moves.

IRL - Background info
INTERNATIONAL ROOKIE LEAGUE (IRL)
LEAGUE BACKGROUND - Based out of the USA & Canada - Level of Competition: Rookie (lowest level/talent) - Minor Leagues: affiliate of MLB - Salary Cap: based on MLB teams - Rules: Current MLB rules/settings (DH in both leagues) - 30 teams, 100 game season - Playoff structure: Wildcard Round (Best of 3), Division Round (Best of 5), World Series (Best of 7) - In setting up this league, I basically took 30 random "real" minor league teams and randomly set them up with a MLB team. All teams have their real cities and nicknames and logos. Also, these teams are not affiliated with their real life counterparts (ie, Brooklyn Cyclones are not the NY Mets rookie league team as they are in real life) Code:
Washington League Standings East Team Billings Mustangs (Baltimore Orioles affiliate) Idaho Falls Chukers (Los Angeles Angels affiliate) Missoula Osprey (Chicago White Sox affiliate) Ogden Raptors (Atlanta Braves affiliate) Orem Owlz (Chicago Cubs affiliate) Central Team Boise Hawks (Boston Red Sox affiliate) Eugene Emeralds (Florida Marlins affiliate) Jupiter Hammerheads (Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate) Tri City Valley Cats (Cleveland Indians affiliate) Yakima Bears (Oakland Athletics affiliate) West Team Aberdeen Ironbirds (New York Yankees affiliate) Brooklyn Cyclones (Detroit Tigers affiliate) Everett Aquasox (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) Vancouver Canadians (Colorado Rockies affiliate) Lincoln League Standings East Team Auburn Doubledays (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) Batavia Muck Dogs (Tampa Bay Devil Rays affiliate) Hudson Valley Renegades (Seattle Mariners affiliate) State College Spikes (New York Mets affiliate) Williamsport Crosscutters (Houston Astros affiliate) Central Team Delmarva Shorebirds (Milwaukee Brewers affiliate) Hagerstown Suns (San Diego Padres affiliate) Hickory Crawdads (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) Lowell Spinners (Texas Rangers affiliate) Mahoning Valley Scappers (Kansas City Royals affiliate) Vermont Lake Monsters (Philadelphia Phillies affiliate) West Team Asheville Tourists (San Francisco Giants affiliate) Kannapolis Intimidators (Minnesota Twins affiliate) Lake County Captains (Washington Nationals affiliate) Lakewood Blueclaws (Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate) West Virginia Power (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate) MY TEAM BACKGROUND Vancouver Canadians - League: Washington League / West Division - Major League Parent Team: Colorado Rockies (controlled by computer) - City: Vancouver, Canada - Ballpark: Canadians Ballpark - Capacity: 9,000 - I chose Vancouver pretty much because they are the one "different" team in the league, being based out of Canada instead of the US. As the affiliate of Colorado, I will not be able to control much other than lineups/rotations/depth charts, as the computer will control all of our roster moves and draft picks, etc. I think this will be a nice twist since I will not need to focus on GM moves and strictly on the team on the field.

Nice idea and a good start. One problem you might run into is that you may run out of players particularily in the major leagues. Using an import of historical rookies and having a 30 team league you will be lucky to get two rounds of draftees each season - not enough to stock a major league club and a minor league affiliate.
There are three solutions I can think of right away. 1- Have another North American League such as the Pacific Coast League being all fictional players. Set the draft for something like 30 rounds and allow movement of players to other leagues. This way your MLB teams and their affiliates can sign PCL overflow players to fill out your rosters. The drawback is if you have already created your league you will have to start over to add the new league. 2- Make sure the Mexican Winter League and/or the Nippon League have a very large draft to accomplish what I suggested above. The benefit is you can use your existing league. The drawback is there will likely be far too few American players in the league down the road. 3- Whenever you run into a problem you can fill the minor league or major league roster from the league setup screen. Drawback to this is a bunch of players with no history suddenly just appear in your league every decade or so. Good luck. And I agree with your first paragraph of the initial post. Any time I do a dynasty I get much more into my league.

Tiger, I thought in reading some other people's dynasties that when you combine a historical and fictional league, and set the draft to X number of rounds, that the difference is in created fictional players.
I have all leagues set to 10 rds draft. So I was hoping, say I get 90 historical players imported (3 rds worth), the other 7 rds in the MLB would be fictional players? Also, I'm not sure if this will help, but I was hoping it would. Since neither the Japan or Mexico leagues have minors, they both have "reserve" rosters, that currently hold 20 players each. After a 10 rd draft, minor retirements and guys jumping to other leagues, I was figuring this number would go up 3-4 players per year. Thus, if any teams in the MLB (specifically the rookie league teams) needed roster filler, they could sign guys away from the other leagues, even if just minor league deals to the reserve players. You have more experience than I do, as I'm sure you've tested out alot, so are either of these viable work arounds?

1900 MLB Season Preview
1900 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SEASON PREVIEW
LEAGUE PREVIEW Code:
1899 STANDINGS American League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Baltimore Orioles 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Boston Red Sox 0 0 .000 - 0-0 New York (A) Yankees 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Toronto Blue Jays 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - The Orioles look like the class of the AL East with a true ace SP in 29 yo Adan Oviero and one of the league's best closers, the flame throwing Wyatt Hory. Baltimore's biggest strength is their lineup which is led by C Gary Greene, one of the leagues best power hitters and the 5 tool LF Floyd Speller who is still among the league's best OF's even at the age of 34. Pitcher To Watch: SP Santos Lopez (TB) - The dimunitive 5'8, 180 lbs Lopez doesn't look like an intiminating force, but the 30 yo is the best pitcher in the AL East. Topping out at 92mph, he has 4 dominiant pitches and some of the best stuff in baseball (18/20). The one knock on Lopez might be his control (8/20), but with great movement and stuff, he should be one of the league leaders in K's and ERA while anchoring the Devil Rays staff. Hitter To Watch: C Gary Greene (Balt) - Greene is simply a monster, the best kind of power hitter, one who can also draw walks and drive the pitches in the strike zone. At only 27 yo, he should be one of the league leaders in HR for many years with his HR power (17/20). He will also be one of the best in OPB with his contact (12/20), eye (15/20) and avoiding strikeouts (13/20). He is also adequate enough behind the dish (12/20) to not be a hinder while playing the field. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:

With a dominant 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation in American Burton Wyckoff and Lesothanian (?) Mamo Kirop, they are anchored by 2 veteran 34 yo aces. Their lineup should also provide many runs with HR hitters up and down the order, they literally have 7 batters in their lineup of topping the 25 HR plateau. Pitcher To Watch: SP Bob Alleman (Det) - At 31 yo, and 6'2, 205 lbs, the RH Alleman doesn't have a weakness. With only 3 pitches, you wouldn't think he would be as dominant as he is, but with his stuff (15/20), movement (16/20) & control (14/20), there is no part of his game that hitters can focus on and attack. Unfortunately, Alleman is the only above avg pitcher on Detroit's staff, so he will be forced to carry a heavy burden. Hitter To Watch: RF Joe McMurrich (Det) - McMurrich is what every GM dreams about when acquiring a player. This 5 tool player can do it all, hit for avg (14/20), power (17/20), eye (14/20), field (15/20) and run (16/20). And at 25 yo, he is only going to get better with a 92/100 potential rating. McMurrich looks like he will be an All-Star and MVP contender for 10+ yrs. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:

SP Ezequiel Ceno, CL Bernard Lovell, C Maureo Zaferson, 1b Fidele Milguadys, 2b Yo Tsukahara, CF Rodrigo Herrera & RF Dan Bracey all are capable of being on the AL All-Star team, and with a team with a talent base like that, they are the favorites to win the AL West. Pitcher To Watch: CL Lorenzo Garlez (Sea) - How do you spell gas? G-A-R-L-E-Z. Topping out at 101mph, and with unbelievable stuff (19/20), Lorenzo is simply a dominant closer that will help the Mariners win many, many close games and should be a contender for Fireman of the Year for quite a few years at 31 yo. Hitter To Watch: SS Xalbador Alviar (Ana) - Alviar is one of MLB's best shortstops as both an ideal leadoff man and gold glove candidate. Xalbador should be on base alot with solid contact (14/20) and OPB (13/20) and when he does get on, catchers better be ready as he is always a threat to steal (14/20 & 19/20). His best attribute however, might be his glove, with a field rating of 17/20 at both SS & 2b. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
National League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Atlanta Braves 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Florida Marlins 0 0 .000 - 0-0 New York (N) Mets 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Philadelphia Phillies 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Washington Nationals 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Can the heart of a team's lineup be enough to win a division? The Nats will surely find out this year with a deadly 3-4-5 in their order. Batting 3rd is 1b Seishiro Sakanoue, a batting champ contender, 4th is the HR hitter C Joe Alvarez and 5th is SS Jose Villaros, a .300-30-30 threat. Their weakness could be the starting staff, which is lacking a true ace, but is made up of 5 solid MLB starting pitchers. Pitcher To Watch: SP Cade McPhedron (Fla) - Even in a fictional MLB Universe, the Marlins are a cheap franchise with an openind day payroll of only 39 million, by far the lowest in baseball. McPhedron makes 11 of that 39 million, how's that for pressure? He is no where near as dominant as some of the other Pitchers to keep an eye on around the league, but when you earn approx 1/3 of your team's total payroll, you must produce. Hitter To Watch: C Joe Alvarez (Wash) - Alvarez might very well be the strongest hitter in the MLB. With a power rating of 19/20 and gap power of 20/20, this catcher can flat out crush a baseball. His eye is suspect, he probably won't hit over .275, his defense is suspect and runs with a piano on his back, but all of those will be moot points when he crushes a 475 foot blast and jogs around the bases. 40? 50? 60? 70? Hr potential? Only time will tell. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
National League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Chicago (N) Cubs 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Cincinnati Reds 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Houston Astros 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Milwaukee Brewers 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Pittsburgh Pirates 0 0 .000 - 0-0 St. Louis Cardinals 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - In a division inwhich 5 of the 6 teams have payrolls over 110mil, there is alot of talent, but on paper the Cubbies look like the best of the bunch. The reason is a lineup much like their crosstown rivals, the White Sox, filled with HR hitters who could thrive in the Windy City. This is an old team though, as their 3 best players (RF Isdel Cano, SS Jason MacChierich & SP Jim Ivie) are all over 32 yo, with Cano being 39. Pitcher To Watch: SP Hidemichi Mori (Hou) - The 26 yo Japanese import Mori is the posterchild for a control pitcher (18/20). He throws hard enough at 93 mph, but with 4 pitches that he can throw at any time with great control and movement (15/20), he will not throw many mistake pitches and should be able to avoid the big inning as he throws plenty of strikes and doesn't hurt himself. Hitter To Watch: 2b George Boutte (Pitt) - 2b is the only position in baseball where there is no debate who the best in the game is. Boutte can do it all at the plate, hit for avg (16/20), power (17/20) and earn a walk (13/20). The Pirates' cleanup hitter should also get his fair share of stolen bases with above avg speed (14/20). His main downfall is in the field. He is a liability at 2b (6/20), but surprisingly is much better at 3b (12/20) and as he gets older (27 yo), a move to the hot corner might be in the cards. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
National League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Arizona Diamondbacks 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Colorado Rockies 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Los Angeles (N) Dodgers 0 0 .000 - 0-0 San Diego Padres 0 0 .000 - 0-0 San Francisco Giants 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - With the NL's best OF combo (Larry Gilmore, Rodney Haight, Steve Middleton) and one of the league's best SP's (Kanko Ono), the Rockies have what it takes to win the NL West pennant. Ono is a true ace, and backed up by a solid bullpen and 4 other avg starters. And the 3 OF's lead a offensive team that should bash alot of homers in the thin air of Colorado and hit for one of the league's best team batting averages. Pitcher To Watch: SP Bob Rock (SD) - Is a 38 yo pitcher worthy of a 16 mil/year contract, the richest in all of baseball? If anyone qualifies, it would be Rock, whose name is a great description of him. Still throwing hard at 95mph, Rock has great control (16/20) mixed in with good stuff (12/20) and movement (13/20) and a rubber arm (19/20 endurance). If his age doesn't catch up to him quickly, Rock will anchor a very solid rotation in SD. Hitter To Watch: LF Larry Gilmore (Col) - The NL West might become known as the senior circuit, as the hitter to watch is also old in baseball terms. But the 36 yo Rockie LF can flat out swing and could flirt with the magical number of .400. Unbelievable contact (19/20) and gap power (17/20), he is a prototypical #3 hitter and whose numbers can only be helped playing in the air up there known as Colorado. Newcomer To Watch: n/a TEAM PREVIEW NEW YORK METS Pitching Starters: Our starting staff lacks a true star ace, but we do have 6 starters on our roster that should give us quality starts. 23 yo Mike Ohler & 33 yo Arturo Peral are our 2 best, and both have the ability to win 15+ games. Ohler is a control pitcher who hits spots and knows haw to throw strikes. Peral, in stark contrast, is a hard thrower with great stuff who will strikeout a ton of hitters, but walk alot at the same time. The rest of the staff, again, is nothing special, but I don't expect any of the 5 in our rotation and our 6th spot start/long reliver to hurt us that badly. Bullpen: We have a dominant closer in 23 yo Chi-ju Lo out of Taiwan. He has unbelievable movement and control and 3 pitches with quality stuff, and at 23 he will be a great closer for many years. Getting the ball from the starters to him will be a problem. The rest of the pen is made up mostly of average at best journeymen, with the best of the bunch being RH JJ O'Cullinen. Another problem is the RH dominance, as our only lefty in the pen is nothing more than an 18yo mopup MR. Code:
Pitching Staff
STARTERS BULLPEN
1. RH M. Ohler CL - C. Lo (RH)
2. RH A. Peral SU - J. O'Cullinen (RH)
3. RH S. Wilson MR - J. Cavuoto (RH)
4. RH I. Bunes MR - O. Alamares (RH)
5. LH L. Detejeda MR - C. Soreano (LH)
LR/Spot Starter - B. Willets (RH)
Hitting Catchers: 29 yo Ricardo Salsedo is not only the team leader, but a solid catcher and one of our best hitters. He has some power, he can hit for a decent avg, he can work a walk, and he is above avg behind the plate. 22 yo backup Simon Crouch is an above avg backup, and we won't miss much at the plate when he's in, but defensively his is a big dropoff from Salsedo. Infield: The IF can best be described as 2 very good players and 2 very avg ones. 3b Chris McClorey is our best hitter who we will rely heavily on to drive in runs. 2b Carlos Escuses is a good player for a second basemen, and an ideal move the runner over/hit for avg #2 hitter. Our 1b and SS however are very ordinary as are all our IF backups, although Tom Darcy should fill the role of utility player who can play 3 different IF positions well. Outfield: Other than the all around hitting of McClorey and power of Salcedo, our 3 best hitters reside in the OF. Despite being 34 yo, LF Billy Koch is a great leadoff who should easily top .300 and steal 30-40 bases. RF Pat Phillips is our best contact hitter and sloted for the #3 hole ahead of McClorey/Salcedo. He should hit .320 and will draw a good amount of walks, which will hopefully result in alot of runs scored. Finally, in CF, Ted Burgess is an ok hitter with a good eye, but his biggest attributes are his legs and glove. A gold glove caliber CF and a 40 sb caliber runner, he brings alot to the table. Finally, our 4th OF, 23yo Lawrence is a future starter. He will serve as our #1 pinch hitter and play in interleague games w/ the DH. He is a power hitter who will will provide some nice pop off the bench. Code:

1900 *** Season Preview
1900 [league redacted] LEAGUE SEASON PREVIEW
LEAGUE PREVIEW Code:
1899 STANDINGS Pacific League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Chiba Lotte Marines 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Fukuoka Daiei Hawks 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Nippon Fighters 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Orix Buffaloes 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Seibu Lions 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Fukuoka looks to be the best in the Pacific League thanks to 3 quality SP's, a great closer, and a lineup with 5 All-Start caliber hitters. 27yo closer Sukejuro Kiyomizu will be the anchor behind the most balanced staff in the Pacific, and should have plenty of chances to close out games. And when the Hawks are up, they have a lineup where 5 of the 8 everyday players can hurt you either with a basehit or a homerun. Pitcher To Watch: SP Keishi Yano (Toh) - Yano is the game's best control pitcher. The 6'1, 27 yo will not overpower many hitters, with his fastball topping out at only 88 mph. And his stuff and movement are nothing better than above avg. But where this pitcher excels in with his control. With a rating of 16/20, he will rarely walk a hitter, and will throw plenty of strikes, giving his teammates behind them a chance with their gloves. He anchors an otherwise weak Tohoku rotation, so alot of the burden will be put on his shoulders to be the ace the team is paying him like. Hitter To Watch: 3b Russ Hamilton (Orix) - Russ is an American import probably on his last legs at 39yo, but realizing he could be a star in Japan, he headed to the International league and signed a league high $12mill contract. His legs are going fast and he is no longer great in the field, but he can still hit, especially in the OPB area. A great contact hitter (12/20) with an even better eye (14/20), Hamilton should be among Japan's leaders in Batting Avg, Walks, and OPB while trying to adjust to life in the International League of Japan. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
1899 STANDINGS Central League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Chunichi Dragon 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hanshin Tiger 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hiroshima Toyo Carp 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Yakult Swallows 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Yokohama Bay Stars 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Yomiuri Giants 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - On paper, the Central League is the far better of the 2 Japanese leagues, but Hiroshima seems like the favorites to win the pennant. While their pitching staff leaves something to be desired, it will be masked by the International Leagues best lineup. Led by 1b Terumoto Baba, C Kikaku Kichida, SS Tamasaburo Il & Dominican LF Pancho Pomares, they have 4 legitimate MVP caliber bats in their lineup and should put up a ton of runs. Pitcher To Watch: SP Pascal Maynez (Yak) - The 25 yo native of Nicaragua is the best young pitcher in the International League. Already a solid pitcher with ratings of 10/11/15, he possesses a 96 mph fastball and a rubber arm (19/20), but he is only going to get better. At 64 ovr right now, he is one of the games best, but with a potential of 79 ovr makes him the highest rating potential pitching star in Japan. Hitter To Watch: LF Kei Nishida (Chun) - Nishida is Japan's premier HR hitter who could match many of those in the MLB in terms of pure power (16/20). He won't hit for a high avg, and along with being on the HR leaderboard, he will equally be as high on the strikouts board, but when when he gets ahold of one, it's a no brainer. Despite being 35 yo, he is yet to hit his prime with a potential HR power of 17/20, so he should be the leagues most dangerous long ball threat for a few years to come. Newcomer To Watch: n/a TEAM PREVIEW YOMIURI GIANTS Pitching Starters: Our starting staff is very pedestrian and can best be described as the aging vets & the unproven youngsters. With 2 pitchers 24 yo or under, #2 Mifune & #3 Iishi, we have a bright future with our staff, and they will be groomed by our 3 other 35yo+ starters, including team #1 SP Atshushi Fujimoto, who is anything but an "ace" but is the best we have. Bullpen: Where we lack in starting pitching, we excel in the pen. Anchored by our excellent 1-2 RH/LH closer/set up man, we have the type of pen that can shut teams down from the 6th inning on if needed to. Closer Shigeko Nishiyama and set-up Mitsuo Jouon are a great end of the game duo, and with 4 other quality relivers and great balance (3 LH/3 RH) we can really play the matchups. Code:
Pitching Staff
STARTERS BULLPEN
1. RH A. Fujimoto CL - S. Nishiyama (RH)
2. RH M. Mifune SU - M. Jouon (LH)
3. LH Y. Iishi MR - K. Okamoto (RH)
4. RH M. Hayagawa MR - I. Brovillard (LH)
5. RH K. Sumi MR - K. Kurita (LH)
MR - I. Fujioh (RH)
Hitting Catchers: Jun Kahae is on of the best young catchers in Japan. At only 26, and already a very solid hitter (more so for avg than power), he is an all-star in the making for a number of years. He will bat 3rd for us, and we're expecting him to hit for a very high avg. Infield: 1b Masayuki Kichida is one of our best power hitters and his corner mate at 3rd, Atsumori is one of our top hitters for avg and OPB. However other than those attributes, neither bring much to the table in terms of fielding or defense. The middle IF is exactly opposite, as neither 2b Seisi Fujioka or SS Kiichi Kiyokowa can do much at the plate, but have plenty of intangibles, and both are capable of winning a gold glove while swiping 20-30 bases. Outfield: 31 yo LF Shohei Heida is our superstar in every regard. Best contact hitter, by far our best power hitter, best eye, and of our 3 starting OF's best with the glove. He has enough talent at the plate to compete for a starting nod in the MLB. .325-40-125 is well within range for this MVP caliber player. Our other 2 starting OFs, CF Atsumori Fujii & RF Tameyoshi Ine are also both solid players. Not quite in the league with Heida, but both will be expected to produce quality numbers and give us a solid 3-some in the OF. Backups Toyotomi Okimasa & Fook Ku will split time at DH (vs RH/LH) and as our primary pinch hitters. Code:

1900 MWL Season Preview
1900 MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE SEASON PREVIEW
LEAGUE PREVIEW Code:
1899 STANDINGS Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Culiacan Moths 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Guasave Hippies 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hermosillo Victorians 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Mazatlan Black Hawks 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Mexicali Leopards 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Mochis Wranglers 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Navojoa Chameleons 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Obregon Orangemen 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Novojoa made the biggest splash at the initial draft, and thus have the highest payroll, and on paper the most talented team. A pair of Mexico City natives, Barney Yule & Eric PEther are the team's top 2 pitchers, and the lineup is very talented and led by OF Tim Southwick (one of the best all-around players in Mexico) and 2 big power hitters (3b Chip Etheridge & C Toli Uriegas) Pitcher To Watch: SP Danny Gillum (Cul) - Gillum is the MWL's premier young stud pitcher. One of the hardest throwers in the league, topping out at 96mph, Danny already has developed a devasting heater and mixes in 2 other pitches that have excellent movement and stuff. The one knock on him may be his control, or lack thereof, but at only 25, he should improve that and be a top pitcher in Mexico for many seasons. Hitter To Watch: CF Shumkichi Yokota (Gus) - Even at 37 yo, the 6'1, 220 lb Japanese import is still the most feared hitter in the Mexican League, as he is the only player in the league with double digit HR power (11/20). He also hits for a decent avg and works the count, but Yokota's biggest strength is the longball, and opposing pitchers might work around him as no one else in the Guasave lineup has power above 7/20. Newcomer To Watch: n/a TEAM PREVIEW MAZATLAN BLACK HAWKS Pitching Starters: Our strength is in the depth of our SPs. We have 5 guys in the rotation, and 1 spot starter/long reliever who aren't much different in tems of ratings, so we expect to be in alot of games with many quality starts. While 37 yo Mario Mapalo is the team's #1, our brightest hope for an ace lives in #2, LH Tonio Zalduondo, who at 20yo already has the best "stuff" on our staff and if he reaches his potential will fill the role of team ace. Bullpen: The bullpen is made of the haves and the have-nots. Our closer (Onofre Guintanilla), and top 2 MR/Set up men (Demetrio Crohar & Juan Figuero) definitely "have it". All 3 will provide quality innings of relief, especially late in close games. Unfortunately, the rest of our pen is a disaster waiting to happen, so we will try our best to limit how much they pitch. Code:
Pitching Staff
STARTERS BULLPEN
1. RH M. Mapalo CL - O. Guintanilla (LH)
2. LH T. Zalduondo SU - D. Crohar (RH)
3. RH M. Lamelas SU - J. Figuero (LH)
4. LH V. Yhuit MR - P. Lewis (RH)
5. RH D. Hering MR - T. Carera (LH)
Spot Starter/LR - J. Aleyandrez (RH)
Hitting Catchers: Pretty avg here (as we are throughout our entire team), with starter John Hutchens winning the job by default. Backup Kijuro Suzuki can't hit a lick, but he is one of the best defensive catchers in the game and will see some time just for that reason. Infield: The only position on the team where we are happy with our starter is at 1b, as 21yo switch hitting Diego Huincho is a star in the making. He has tremendous power and will hit for a decent enough avg to be our cleanup hitter for a long time. We have 6 other IFs on our active roster, each one is completely interchangeable of the other, so expect to see alot of time for the backups as they are as good (or bad actually) as the starters. Outfield: Our starting 3 OFs are all in the "above avg" quality level. LF Gabriel Failde, even at 38yo, is our fastest player and will leadoff. CF Segundo Aguilar should hit for a fairly good avg, but nothing else. And RF Berry Maranville falls into the category of "HR or strikeout". The most promising is 21yo youngster Juan Ganzalez who has tremendous HR power, but hasn't developed the rest of his game yet. Even so, he will serve as our #1 pinch hitter, and will see plenty of time giving guys days off in the OF. Code:

1900 IRL Season Preview
1900 INTERNATIONAL ROOKIE LEAGUE SEASON PREVIEW
LEAGUE PREVIEW Code:
1899 STANDINGS Washington League East Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Billings Mustangs 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Idaho Falls Chukers 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Missoula Osprey 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Ogden Raptors 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Orem Owlz 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Much like their MLB parent team Baltimore, the Mustangs are predicted to win their division. They have the best staff in the WL East, maybe in all of the IRL. With some MLB ready vets like (SP Chris Bischoff & CL Gabe Velasquez) mixed in with promising rookies (SP Carlos Marias & MR Kevin Hicks), they have a great staff from top to bottom. Offensively, they do lack alot of HR power threat, but they have plenty of high avg/opb guys, most notably a pair of vets in CF Ken Hallett & C Christofor Tovaz. Pitcher To Watch: SP Dan Grays (Miss) - Dan is a towering specimen on the mound at 6'6, but he doesn't pitch like it. He uses more of the finesse/control type game, but does it very effectively. His fastball only tops at 89mph, but mixed in with his off-speed pitches, all with plenty of movement, he is extremely tough to hit. This future White Sox starter should be up with the big league team late this year, or next year at the latest. Hitter To Watch: RF John Eastman (IF) - The future rightfielder for Anaheim, Eastman possesses a ton of HR power. At only 18, and still no where near his full potential, he projects as a 30-40 HR hitter in the MLB, and should be one of the league leaders here in IRL as he develops. He needs to improve his contact and eye, but the power potential is enough to make him a sure-fire MLB porspect. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
1899 STANDINGS Washington League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Boise Hawks 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Eugene Emeralds 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Jupiter Hammerheads 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Tri City Valley Cats 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Yakima Bears 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Boston's minor league team is the best in the WL Central, combining tons of speed and OPB (small ball) on offense with above avg SP and the best pen in the IRL, including can't miss MLB star closer Quique Requejo, who right now at 25 could be the closer for 1/2 the MLB teams, and will be a fixture in the Red Sox pen in the near future. Pitcher To Watch: CL Quique Requejo (Boi) - Requejo, as stated above, is the best closer prospect in the IRL and a sure-fire MLB stud in the pen. At 25 yo, and ratins of 11/10/9, he is just about ready for the promotion, but the big excitement conerning him comes in his potential ratings of 13/12/11 including 16/14/13 vs. RH hitters. While only topping out at 90mph, he might not be a closer in the bigs, he will at the very least be an excellent MR/set up man. Hitter To Watch: RF Bill Monroe (Jup) - Monroe doesn't excel in any 1 area, but he projects to be a solid all around OF for Arizona. He projects to a player who can hit .275, with 20 hr and 25 sb along with above avg defense. Not numbers that will blow you away, but at only 18yo, he still has time to improve into an even better 5 tool player. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
Washington League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Aberdeen Ironbirds 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Brooklyn Cyclones 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Everett Aquasox 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Vancouver Canadians 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - The Yankees rookie team is built around offense, led by a trio of OF's who all have MLB starter caliber talents. CF Garcia projects to a 40sb leadoff man, LF Graciano to a .280-320 linedrive hitter, and RF Kirby a 30-40 hr threat in the middle of the lineup. And all are 20yo or younger. They are backed up by a 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation in 24yo Ceara and 28 yo Yandell, both of which are capable of winning 15 games in the IRL. Pitcher To Watch: SP Vito Ceara (Abe) - At 24yo, Ceara is close to MLB ready, and should be up with the Yankees soon. He is a solid SP across the board, with above avg stuff/movement and control potential ratings. He does have to improve his endurance with only a 10/20 rating, but he will be a solid ace for Aberdeen for the time being, and will probably start in long relief for the Yanks when he is promoted. Hitter To Watch: 1b Dustin Cloud (Van) - Dustin is a 17yo power hitter star in the making. Picture Adam Dunn. Plenty of K's, not the highest of averages, but one of the most dangerous and powerful cleanup hitters in the league. He will really strikeout alot (1/20 in avoid K's), but at 17 is young enough to improve his eye significantly before being a fixture at 1b for the Rockies. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
Lincoln League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Auburn Doubledays 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Batavia Muck Dogs 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hudson Valley Renegades 0 0 .000 - 0-0 State College Spikes 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Williamsport Crosscutters 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - The Renegades are a strange team for a rookie league. While not having many prospects for the Mariners, they might be the best team in all of the IRL with a team made up of mostly all vets who aren't quite good enough for the majors. With 4 32yo+ hitters in their lineup and 2 top SPs and a Closer all over 30yo, they have the makeup of a team to win now, but not provide much help for the future. Pitcher To Watch: SP Tommy Henshall (Bat) - TB's #1 prospect is an oddity in terms of pitching talent. He has a rubber arm (15/20 endurance) and great movement (16/20) potential ratings, but his stuff and control are only projected at 6/20. But he is only 17yo, and if he can figure out how to balance out his game and improve his control, he should be a top starter in Tampa Bay's rotation in a few short years. Hitter To Watch: RF Nathan Wilcox (Wil) - A prospect Nathan is not at 35yo. But he might be the best all-around hitter in the IRL. With ratings across the board in the 9-13 range, he can do it all while providing the Crosscutters with veteran leadership. He is probably the 26th man on the Astros roster and will surely get called up at some point, but while he is in the IRL, he is an MVP candidate and maybe even a triple crown threat. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
Lincoln League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Delmarva Shorebirds 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hagerstown Suns 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Hickory Crawdads 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Lowell Spinners 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Mahoning Valley Scappers 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Vermont Lake Monsters 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - The Brewers minor league team is loaded with young talented players. With a lineup that featuers 6 of the 8 everyday players under 21 yo, and a starting rotation with 3 19yo's, the Brewers should have plenty of help in the future from their farm system. Their best spect is an 18yo RF by the name of Romano Charana, a middle of the order type power hitter who has a great eye and knack for drawing the free pass. Pitcher To Watch: SP Geraldo Palmier (Hick) - Palmier is a 25yo SP prospect with unbelievable stuff. He has a heavy fastball (94mph) with 3 other quality pitches, and he is a pure strikeout pitcher. However he still lacks the control to be effective in the bigs, but Toronto is hoping he can develop his control and join the Blue Jays' rotation next year. Hitter To Watch: CF Joe Cubero (Del) - While most of the hype on Delmarva centers around RF Charana, 18yo CF Cubero might be the better prospect. The one thing you can't teach is speed, and Joe is oozing with it (20/20, 20/20). He still struggles a bit with his hitting and eye, but when he gets on, he's always a threat to steal. If he can improve each of those attributes slightly, he is sure to be Milwaukee's leadoff hitter in the near future. Newcomer To Watch: n/a Code:
Lincoln League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Asheville Tourists 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Kannapolis Intimidators 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Lake County Captains 0 0 .000 - 0-0 Lakewood Blueclaws 0 0 .000 - 0-0 West Virginia Power 0 0 .000 - 0-0 - Lake County features a nice mix of hungry vets and promising rookies and look like the class of the LL West. Led by 32yo RF Chico Alvarez, who is the best pure avg hitter in the IRL, they have an offense capable of scoring some runs. And with solid starters solidified by a great 1-2 closer/setup veteran combo, they have the pitching needed to win as well. Washington was predicted as the best in the NL East, and their minor league affiliate is the same in the LL West. Pitcher To Watch: CL Manuel Delallera (Lak) - At 28, Delallera will probable never get much better, but at current talent level, his is pretty darn good. With literally 9's across the board in both current and potential ratings, and a 96mph fastball, he is a very capable closer and should challenge for the fireman of the year award barring a promotion to Pittsburgh. Hitter To Watch: RF Chico Alvares (LC) - The 32 yo leader of the Captains is the prototypical #3 hitter. With a 11/20 contact, 12/20 gap power and 14/20 eye, he puts the ball in play and should have good avg and opb numbers. Surprised that he wasn't with Washington after camp, Chico is hungry and looks to put up big numbers early in the year and earn the trip to the majors he feels he deserves. Newcomer To Watch: n/a TEAM PREVIEW VANCOUVER CANADIANS Pitching Starters: The biggest strength of our team is in our starting rotation. Not many young prospects, but with 29yo Shayne McWalrick, 29yo Eichiro Akamatsu & 28yo Wally Belcher, we have 3 solid #1 type SPs. Our best young starter would be #4 SP Ben Grim at 25yo Bullpen: Again, not much young talent, but there is definitely talent in the pen, especially at the back end. Closer Justin Grill is 38 yo, but still throws very hard and has the best stuff on the team. Ahead of him are 2 dependable set-up men in RH Gabriel Valdovinos & LH Mike Hammons. Code:
Pitching Staff
STARTERS BULLPEN
1. RH S. McWalrick CL - J. Grill (RH)
2. RH E. Akamatsu SU - G. Valdovinos (RH)

4. RH B. Grim MR - D. Holden (LH)
5. RH M. Plasencia MR - L. Flinn (RH)
MR - F. Perez (LH)
MR - V. Eslaquit (LH)
Mopup - A. Gallegos (RH)
LR/Spot Starter - Y. Pinyochon (RH)
Hitting Catchers: Neither starter Juan Vaides or backup Vicenter Herrera are much at the plate, but Vaides got the starting nod because he is a much better defensive catcher, which with our starting staff, we like what he can do for us more. Infield: Our corner IFs are our best power hitter (17yo 1b Dustin Cloud) and best contact hitter (33yo 3b Federico Colomes) and will bat 3/4 in our lineup and be needed to produce. Our middle IFs are mostly defensive players who we hope can solidfy our up the middle defense and turn some DPs. Outfield: CF Emeril Calabrese is our only semi-fast player, so we need him to be a table setter as our leadoff hitter. Our corner OFs (Derek McInally & Lorenzo Manriguez) both are ok hitters who can't play much defense. McInally is only 17 though and one of the organizations better prospects. Code:
LINEUP BENCH 1. CF E. Calabrese (R) C V. Herrera (R) 2. SS T. Iizuka (S) IF J. Gill (R) 3. 3b F. Colomes (R) OF L. Gargiola (L) 4. 1b D. Cloud (R) 5. RF L. Manriguez (R) 6. LF D. McInally (R) 7. Will only play a game once in awhile with "my teams" and more so be GM/Manager than an in-game decision maker. I'm not sure how I am going to work the mid-season reports (either post them as they happen or wait for all 4 leagues to reach the mid way point and put them up together), but those should be the next batch of reports, hopefully in a day or 2

Put (code) but use [ ] instead of ( ) Cut/Paste whatever standings you want in that box. I do each division seperately. Then just use spaces so it all lines up exactly how you want it to look. End it with (/code) and again [ ] instead of ( ) hope that helps

MLB = Top League, Top fictional players, but they're not quite as good as historical ones on average, however a few will be on the career leaderboards Japan = AAA equivilant Mexico = AA equivilant Rookie League = basically just roster filler with fictional players and a place where drafted historical players can develop for a year or 2 Used the same Player Creation Multiplier and ML Equilivancy across the board for all categories MLB - Player Creation 0.950, MLE 1.000 Japan - Player Creation 0.800, MLE 0.850 Mexico - Player Creation 0.650, MLE 0.700 Rookie League - Player Creation 0.500, MLE 0.550 Hope here is that the gap between leagues and type of stats produced remain constant and that there is a clear consistant difference between all 4 leagues. I haven't tested it out over a long period though, as after the patch I was just happy to get started without crashes, but in theory it should work.

Just a little dynasty note...I have dropped the idea of managing a team in each league.
I have spent about 5 hrs playing/simming today, and between setting lineups, making roster/personel moves, etc...I have gotten 1 month into the season. And 2 of the 4 leagues haven't even begun yet. Just too much work to do along with being league commish and keeping tabs on everything. So I resigned from all 4 teams and will just serve as league commish. All reports will remain the same, save for the Team Reports section, which obviously will no longer exist. However, as a supplement, from time to time, I will be doing a "in-depth" report on a player or team or event in the league, just to give some added insight into the baseball universe.

*** - 1900 Mid-Season Report
1900 [league redacted] LEAGUE MID-SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 6/7/00) LEAGUE REPORT Code:
1900 STANDINGS Pacific League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Fukuoka Daiei Hawks 41 28 .594 - 42-27 Chiba Lotte Marines 39 30 .565 2.0 38-31 Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas 36 33 .522 5.0 38-31 Nippon Fighters 33 36 .478 8.0 34-35 Seibu Lions 30 39 .435 11.0 25-44 Orix Buffaloes 28 41 .406 13.0 30-39 - Fukuoka leads the Pacific on the strength of their pitching staff. Leading the league in ERA, Avg agains, CG and Walks has certainly helped them jump out to a slim lead at the All-Star break over the Marines. Offensively, they lead the league in runs scored, however are only in the middle of the pack in both batting avg and HR, so they are making the most of their scoring chances. They have a PCL best 6 All-stars, led by 1b Gary Wilson, who leads the league in RBI, OPS, and BB. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Keishi Yano (Toh) - Yano was tabbed as the pitcher to watch in the PCL, and at the midway point has certainly lived up to the hype as he is the front runner for the Cy Young award. Posting a 9-3 record, with a 2.75 era and 120 k in 127.2 IP, he is dominating the league. He leads in ERA, Wins, IP, VORP, and WHIP and is in the top 5 in K's and Opp Avg. Hitter Spotlight: 1b Sugimoto Mimura (Chi) - Mimura is the PCL leader in Avg (.358), VORP (29.8) & hits (107) while also posting 6 hr & 44 rbi and a PCL 2nd best 17 ss & 55 runs scored. He is an oddity in that 1b are usually known for their power, but he is leading the Marines in the "leadoff" type stats. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Central League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Hiroshima Toyo Carp 42 27 .609 - 36-33 Yakult Swallows 41 28 .594 1.0 40-29 Chunichi Dragon 35 34 .507 7.0 37-32 Yokohama Bay Stars 34 35 .493 8.0 33-36 Yomiuri Giants 28 41 .406 14.0 32-37 Hanshin Tiger 27 42 .391 15.0 29-40 - A game out of 1st, but with a better pyt record, and going 8-2 in their last 10, the Swallows are hot on the heels of Hiroshima for the Central league lead. Yakult doesn't feature a boisterous offense, ranking near the bottom in the league in most categories, but their pitching is subpurb. With a team ERA of 4.00, they are a full 0.50 run lower than any other team in Japan, and their opposing avg of .258 is .020 points better than anyone else. They have 7 players on the All-Star team, including their 1-2 punch at the top of rotation in Michihiro Koumura & Kaz Eida who have combined to go 17-6 on the year. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Momoru Yoshikawa (Yok) - Momoru has been the ***'s best pitcher all year, but unfortunately, he isn't getting much help from his Yokohama teammates. Going 10-1 at the midway point, he has approx 1/3 of his team's total wins. He also leads the Central League in ERA (2.58), VORP (42.7), & WHIP (1.10) while in the top 5 in IP, K's and Opp Avg. Hitter Spotlight: CF Takamasa Kawaii (Yok) - When looking at the CL leaderboards, 1 name pops out at you, Kawaii. That's because he's all over them. He is a legit quadruple crown threat with 1/2 way numbers of .343, 22hr, 57rbi, 59 runs. Currently he is 3rd in Avg and runs while leading the league in HR, RBI as well as OPS, SLugging, VORP, Iso Power and Total Bases. Rookie Spotlight: n/a LEAGUE LEADERS Code:

IRL - 1900 Mid-Season Report
1900 INTERNATIONAL ROOKIE LEAGUE MID-SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 6/22/00) LEAGUE REPORT Code:
1900 STANDINGS Washington League East Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Ogden Raptors 27 21 .562 - 28-20 Idaho Falls Chukers 25 23 .521 2.0 20-28 Missoula Osprey 25 23 .521 2.0 28-20 Billings Mustangs 21 27 .438 6.0 22-26 Orem Owlz 17 31 .354 10.0 19-29 - The Chukers are one of the hottest teams in the IRL, winning 6 in a row and going 9-1 in their last 10. However looking indepth into the numbers, they might be doing it with smoke and mirrors. The don't rank in the top 1/2 of the Washington league in any major team category and the only individual stat they lead in is SB, with 18 by CF Rey Garcia. Their lone All-star is MR George Hills, who is having a solid season with a 4-0 record and 1.16 era in 23.1 ip. Even so, they are winning games and on a tear, and closing in on the rear-view mirror of division leading Ogden. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Alanzo Belleso (OGD) - Belleso has been virtually untouchable the 1st half of the season, going 6-0 with a league leading 0.68 era and and unheard of 0.82 whip. The 18 yo All-Star has lead Ogden to the division lead while leading the WL in 5 pitching categories and ranking in the top 5 in 4 others. Hitter Spotlight: C Don Kirtley (OGD) - Like his battery mate Belleso, Kirtley is the top hitter in the division and on the team with the best record. The 18yo All-Star starting C leads the league in HR, while posting 1/2 half numbers of .321, 11hr, 29 rbi. He also leads the league in Slugging & OPS while ranking 3rd in Avg & RBI. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Washington League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Boise Hawks 28 20 .583 - 27-21 Jupiter Hammerheads 26 22 .542 2.0 27-21 Eugene Emeralds 22 26 .458 6.0 21-27 Yakima Bears 22 26 .458 6.0 23-25 Tri City Valley Cats 19 29 .396 9.0 21-27 - Boise tied the WL lead with 4 All-Stars, including 3 pitchers, which makes sense as pitching is how they have jumped out to a 2 game lead in the division at the break. Postin a team ERA of 3.15, with 280 k & opponents hitting only .237, Boise ranks in the top 3 in each category. Their best player so far has been closer Quique Requejo, who is profiled below. Pitcher Spotlight: CL Quique Requejo (BOI) - The numbers speak for themselves, 16 saves in 16 chances, 1.72 era and 14 k to 4 bb in 15.1 ip. Requejo was touted as the league's best closer in the pre-season, and thus far has lived up to the hype. He is sure to be up with the Red Sox in the majors in the very near future if he continues to dominant the IRL as he's been so far. Hitter Spotlight: LF Armando Capois (BOI) - Hitting has not been the strong point thus far in the WL Central, however the 18yo All-Star LF for Boise is putting up respectable numbers. .315, 5 hr, 25 rbi, 24 runs ranks Armando in the top 5 in Avg & VORP and top 20 in RBI & Runs scored. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Washington League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Brooklyn Cyclones 28 20 .583 - 28-20 Everett Aquasox 28 20 .583 - 27-21 Aberdeen Ironbirds 24 24 .500 4.0 22-26 Vancouver Canadians 24 24 .500 4.0 23-25 - In the WL's tightest division, Everett gets the nod as the team in the spotlight mainly due to one of the league's best offenses. They lead the league in runs scored and rank near the top in team Avg, HR, and OPB. 3/4 of their starting infield made the WL All-Star team, however none will be starting for the squad. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Vito Ceara (ABE) - Vito was tabbed as the Division's pitcher to watch and thus far has lived up to the billing, although he was snudded from the All-Star team despite a 6-2 record with a 2nd best 1.62 era in the WL. The knock on Ceara might be that he hasn't pitched long in the games he's started, averaging only 6.1 ip per start. Hitter Spotlight: 1b Mel "Cotton" von Lenski (EVE) - Cotton leads the WL in RBI as the cleanup hitter for Everett. The 18yo All-Star has also hit .297 with 5 hr thus far on the year and is the focal point of one of the league's most effective and highest scoring teams. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Lincoln League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Auburn Doubledays 31 17 .646 - 30-18 Batavia Muck Dogs 28 20 .583 3.0 27-21 Hudson Valley Renegades 23 25 .479 8.0 25-23 Williamsport Crosscutters 22 26 .458 9.0 17-31 State College Spikes 18 30 .375 13.0 17-31 - The IRL's best team all year has been Auburn, who at the break is the only team with 30+ wins. They accumulated that record on the strength of the best staff in the LL, ranking in the top 5 in every major pitching category. However, they do it without the star power, as they only have 3 All-Star players on the team, and focus more on the team aspect. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Rick Williams (AUB) - The 22 yo All-Star leads the IRL with a 9-3 record at the midway point, how he got that record is a mystery. In 117.2 innings, he has a ratio of 56 k to 48 bb and an ERA of 2.87, definitely not the most impressive numbers. None the less, he has led his team to the best record in the IRL and is the only pitcher with a chance at a 20 win season. Hitter Spotlight: 2b Dantel Yzaguirre (BAT) - Dantel's stats at the midway point are very impressive, .362, 1 hr, 13 rbi, 14 runs. But when you take into account he missed 3 weeks with a Damaged Meniscus in his knee and has only played in 31 of his teams 48 games, they look even better. He would be leading the league in both Batting Avg & OPS is he had enough ABs to qualify. And even with missing so much time, he was still selected as the starting 2b for LL All-Star team. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Lincoln League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Vermont Lake Monsters 28 20 .583 - 26-22 Hagerstown Suns 27 21 .562 1.0 31-17 Lowell Spinners 26 22 .542 2.0 27-21 Delmarva Shorebirds 24 24 .500 4.0 27-21 Hickory Crawdads 24 24 .500 4.0 20-28 Mahoning Valley Scappers 20 28 .417 8.0 20-28 - At the midway point, Hagerstown leads the LL in team avg, hr, runs scored, obp, shutouts, and all-stars...yet they find themselves 1 game out in the Central League standings. However if they can keep up this pace, and based on pyt. records, the odds are they will wind up walking away with the pennant. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Fernando Urrotia (LOW) - Fernando has been the most dominant pitcher in the IRL thru the midway point, although his overall stats might not tell the full story. The 6'3, 230 lb 18 yo All-star is 6-3 with a 1.39 era and 70 k in 84.0 ip. And he's been better than that. He has started 10 games this season, and in the 1 month stretch from 5/17/00 to 6/16/00 he made 7 of those starts. Over those 7 starts he has a 5 hit shutout, a 3 hit shutout, a 2 hit shutout and a No-Hitter (the first ever in the IRL) in which he he struck out 10 while walking only 1. That's impressive! Hitter Spotlight: RF Paul O'Toole (HAG) - The 30 yo O'Toole is a vet in a rookie league who is putting up impressive numbers in hopes of signing a major league contract with another professional league in the off-season. He leads the LL with 30 runs scored, while hitting .316 with 4 hr & 29 rbi and was named the starting RF for the Lincoln League All-Star team. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS Lincoln League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Lakewood Blueclaws 26 22 .542 - 24-24 Asheville Tourists 24 24 .500 2.0 25-23 Lake County Captains 23 25 .479 3.0 25-23 Kannapolis Intimidators 21 27 .438 5.0 20-28 West Virginia Power 19 29 .396 7.0 21-27 - The Blueclaws are the only division leader without an All-Star proving you can win with a balanced attack. The have 4 starting pitchers with 5 wins or more, none dominating. 6 of their 8 everyday players are hitting above .250 and 3 of those 6 have atleast 4 hr & 15 rbi. It is this type of team that is tough to beat because you cannot shutdown 1 or 2 players and render them hopeless. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Stan Watterson (KAN) - How do you post a 0.85 era and only have a record of 4-3? You would have to ask Stan who has been the league's most hard luck starter. Along with his stellar ERA, his whip is below 1 and he has only allowed 1 hr in 95.0 ip. He would have been a sure bet for the All-Star game, however he was recently called up to the parent team Minnesota Twins. Hitter Spotlight: 2b Steve "Pistol" Reid (WV) - The nickname Pistol is a fitting one for Reid, as opposing pitchers say his line drives are like bullets from one. This 20yo All-Star is hitting .337 with 8 hr, 21 rbi and 30 runs at the midway point and ranks at, or near the top, in 12 of the 18 hitting categories in the LL. Rookie Spotlight: n/a LEAGUE LEADERS Code:

MLB - 1900 Mid-Season Report
1900 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL MID-SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 6/23/00) LEAGUE REPORT Code:
1900 STANDINGS American League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Boston Red Sox 44 31 .587 - 43-32 Toronto Blue Jays 40 35 .533 4.0 39-36 New York (A) Yankees 35 40 .467 9.0 36-39 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 29 46 .387 15.0 30-45 Baltimore Orioles 28 47 .373 16.0 31-44 - Boston has gone 9-1 in their last 10 and 19-6 in their last 25 games in overtaking Toronto and jumping out to a 4 game lead in the AL East at the midway point. They don't lead the league (or their division for that matter) in any major team statistic, and their only All-Star is a MR, but they are by far, the hottest team in baseball the last month and pulling away in their division. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Karl Holland (BOS) - Holland was an AL All-Star snub, as he ranks in the top 5 in both ERA and Wins while serving as the best pitcher on a division leading team. With 1/2 half numbers of 10-5, 2.72 era and an impressive 109 k in 109.1 ip, this 24 yo is on pace to make up for this year's snub and be an All-Star for many years to come. Hitter Spotlight: RF Frank Nichols (TOR) - When looking at Nichols' numbers, they are very impressive, but it's scary how despite how gaudy they are, he does not lead the league in any category. None the less, the 23 yo All-Star reserve has posted midpoint numbers of .355, 16 hr, 61 rbi, 51 runs & .966 OPS. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS American League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Detroit Tigers 43 32 .573 - 44-31 Minnesota Twins 38 37 .507 5.0 37-38 Cleveland Indians 32 43 .427 11.0 30-45 Kansas City Royals 32 43 .427 11.0 31-44 Chicago (A) White Sox 30 45 .400 13.0 33-42 - The Tigers have the largest lead of any of the AL division leaders, and rightfully so had a AL-best tying 4 players named to the All-Star team. While not leading the league in any 1 area, they are balanced as they are in the top 5 offensively (runs, avg, hr) and pitching (era, avg, hr allowed). Their leader is Erubiel Clement, who will start for the AL All-Star team on the mound and has an AL best 11-4 record at the break. Pitcher Spotlight: CL Jeremy "Ignitor" Millsap (MIN) - The Ignitor leads the AL in saves and leads all AL closers in ERA, K's and Whip and was selected to the All-Star team. With a 2-1 record and 20 saves in 24 chances, Millsap has been extremely dependable. Add in his 1.90 era and 37 k in only 23.2 ip, and it's no wonder why Minnesota is 16-8 in 1 run games this year. Hitter Spotlight: 1b Johnny "Nutso" Green (CLEV) - While the Indians are a distant 11 games out in the AL Central, it surely hasn't been Green's fault. Nutso is the team's only All-Star selection and is 2nd in the league in HR with 26 while hitting .315 and driving in 68. His most impressive numbers might be his 1.137 OPS as he is also among the league leaders in walks. At 35 yo, Green doesn't have many All-Star caliber years left in him and he's hoping Cleveland can pick it up the 2nd half. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS American League Western Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Los Angeles (A) Angels 48 27 .640 - 49-26 Texas Rangers 47 28 .627 1.0 42-33 Seattle Mariners 44 31 .587 4.0 46-29 Oakland Athletics 35 40 .467 13.0 34-41 - The AL's best team, the Angels are putting up many impressing team and individual stats. Led by arguably the league's best hitter (2b Jorge Balcorta) and pitcher (SP John Clinkscales), the Angels rank in the top 5 in the AL in all the following team statistics: Runs, Avg, HR, BB, OPS, ERA, K and CG. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Franklin Pittman (SEA) - At 10-3 with a 2.44 era and 128 K, Pittman ranks in the top 3 in all 3 of the pitching triple crown numbers. He also has thrown the league's only No-Hitter. The 31 yo All-Star also is in the top 5 in IP, Sho, and Whip, making him one of the top pitchers in the division and a leading candidate for AL Cy Young. Hitter Spotlight: 2b John Balcorta (ANA) - Balcorta is the favorite to walk away with AL MVP after his monsterous 1st half in which he led the AL in Batting Avg and Runs Scored and puts up big numbers in every category. His state line reads as: .374, 19 hr, 64 rbi, 77 runs, 22 sb, 1.154 ops & 57.0 vorp. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS National League Eastern Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Atlanta Braves 42 33 .560 - 42-33 New York (N) Mets 39 36 .520 3.0 38-37 Washington Nationals 35 40 .467 7.0 38-37 Florida Marlins 32 43 .427 10.0 32-43 Philadelphia Phillies 29 46 .387 13.0 35-40 - The team with the best record in the division also has the best team avg, the most runs scored, and the best team era...so a lead at the midway point only makes sense. They have very few stars, only 1 All-Star, yet they are the most complete team in the division. LF Dave DeWarrenne is the team's best player, but 4 of their 8 everyday players are hitting over .300, 2 have over 15 HR, 3 have topped the 50 RBI mark. In the pitching dept, they have 3 starters with 7 wins or more. A complete team effort in Atlanta. Pitcher Spotlight: SP Mike Ohler (NYM) - The 23yo All-Star pitcher is almost willing the Mets to contention in the NL East. He is the only pitcher on their staff with a record above .500 and the only one with under a 3.00 era. Going 10-3, 2.62 era thru the 1st half, along with a ratio of 91 k to 25 bb in 99.1 ip, he is a one of the best control pitchers in baseball and a Cy Young candidate. Hitter Spotlight: SS Jack "Zoom Zoom" McCowan (PHIL) - Jack might be the best leadoff hitter in all of baseball. His "regular" numbers of .337, 13 hr, 60 runs, 12 sb are very solid for a leadoff hitter, but McCowan excels in getting on base. With 14 more walks than anyone else in baseball (80), McGowan also leads the NL with a .488 obp, and the All-Star SS routinely gives his team a chance to score early and often hitting 1st in the lineup. Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:
1900 STANDINGS National League Central Division Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Cincinnati Reds 43 32 .573 - 41-34 Pittsburgh Pirates 41 34 .547 2.0 37-38 St. Louis Cardinals 36 39 .480 7.0 36-39 Milwaukee Brewers 33 42 .440 10.0 39-36 Chicago (N) Cubs 32 43 .427 11.0 34-41 Houston Astros 30 45 .400 13.0 29-46 - While currently a distant 7 games out, the Cards might be the most dangerous team in the NL Central. Suffering an insane number of injuries thru the 1st half (including 3/5 of their starting rotation and 2 of their 8 everyday players), the Cards have stayed afloat and are finally healthy heading into the 2nd half. Despite only having 1 All-star in 1b Glenn O'Heir, St. Louis is a talented team with 11 of their 25 players rated at 70 or better overall. Is it enough to overcome a big deficit, time will only tell. Pitcher Spotlight: CL Dave Windus (PITT) - The best word to describe Windus so far this season is "perfection." 28 games, 23 save chances, 23 saves, 0-0 record with a 0.32 era (a solo HR in a game in which the team was up 3 runs when he came in), he really has been perfect this year. Add in his 0.70 whip and .139 avg, and nothing else needs to be said about the best closer in the game. Hitter Spotlight: RF Eric Eckerman (MILW) - At 38 yo, most scouts though Eckerman was done, over the hill, washed up. He answered the critics by posting midpoint numbers of .412, 25 hr, 64 rbi, 71 runs, 18 sb, 1.271 opb & 58.7 vorp. And in any other year, he would be the "story of the year in the MLB"...however (see Hitter Spotlight below) Rookie Spotlight: n/a Code:

Pitcher Spotlight: SP Kanko Ono (COL) - The NL All-Star game starter is only 9-5 on the year...but when you look at all his other stats, he's been the best SP in baseball thru the 1st half. MLB's best ERA (2.24), Shutouts (3), Whip (0.89), Opp Avg (.189)...NL's best Vorp (52.8), IP (132.2) and in the top 3 in Strikeouts (125). Ono has done it all this year, despite not winning double digits yet. However, if he keeps putting up these numbers, he should win at a much higher rate the 2nd half and finish with 20 on the year. Hitter Spotlight: 1b Sexto Lopez (ARIZ) - Words cannot describe the 1st half that Lopez has had, so I am just going to list the facts. 21 yo, has had 2 ratings improvements already, and is a 98 potential overall. Now for the stats... .433 avg, 29 hr, 91 rbi, 66 runs, 1.271 ops, 75.3 vorp, .994 fielding %. Now for the projections... .433, 63, 197, 143. And let me repeat...21 YEARS OLD!
