For you guys running sims already

I would love to hear your reports on how the game is working for you now. Alot of the GM's in my league have some real concerns still about switching after all the problems

So far, mostly so good. We haven't encountered any major bugs - at least, none that have been reported by the owners.

The biggest problem we've had is that if people having their Subscribe to News setting to Entire League or "bigger", they get Player Development messages from Scouts not on their payroll and for players not in their organization. That's not a huge thing - it was "public" info in OOTP6, since you could always access any team's PD Report - but it's different from how OOTP6 did it and adds clutter to people's messages after each sim.

Also, after the final 1.0.2 patch I've yet to be able to find the button to download a league file from within the game. That's not a problem with the simming itself, tho.

That's the extent of our difficulties so far. We are only three weeks into Spring Training, though, so things may change.

Please keep posting as you go along. We are not going to use scouts I don't think (Don't use them now). Several of my GM's are still very nervous about making the switch. I want to get moved over to the new game but I hope to hear from several commish's telling me "it's great..go for it" before I make a move

Kaitiaki, If you are in the game in commish mode you will not see the option. You have to be logged in as an owner, and of course online league mode need to be enabled.

As far as problems with the new patch, I haven't seen any problems, other than the message problem, either. I'm an owner in two leagues, and the new download feature is awesome. I also help run a league, and the option to have everything done for you in the game is a tremendous time saver. I say switch, and take advantage of the new features.

Dog Days Baseball is currently running a test league, before moving over the real league. It seems to be going well.

One practical problem that I see: To switch over, you have to have your 6.5 league on April 1, but after the switch into 2006, you find yourself back on January 1. If you try to quickly let the AI sim to April 1, the AI will make all kinds of dumb roster moves... However, if you have humans take over the teams on January 1, you have a certain amount of cleaning up to do -- players on DFA, out of place, etc. and if any owner doesn't get his roster in order before advancing, it can be a real mess.

Thank you Robster. I'd already been able to locate the button after asking the same question in the release thread for the final patch, but I did use your link to pose the question to Andreas of why the game is set up in this way.

Appreciate the help.

Ran another sim last night. No other issues, and as has already been dealt with in this thread the game-internal way to download online league files seems to work just fine for anyone who isn't marked as a Commish in the game.

The "issue" with people getting everyone's Player Development reports seems to be solvable simply by changing each Manager's Subscribe To News setting to something less than Entire League. That may have an adverse effect on receiving PotW messages and the like, though, once we get to the regular season.

this thread is exactly what I was looking for. So no one has run into any other issues then? This is good news. If anyone else has had any other potentially difficult problems please post them.

I also have a few questions if someone has any answers. Does anyone have a strategy for doing the drafts now? We used to do a preseason one and draft on the boards while Free Agency ran, clearly this is not an option anymore with free agency taking place after the regular season. I would hate to take a week off from simming to run a draft but my league really wouldn't work for live drafting. Has anyone come up with another solution to this?

How different is running a sim from 6.12 or 6.5? Can I still just import everything from the FTP and run it or are there other steps that might potentially trip me up? Also, is there still an issue creating a league file or does that all work fine now?

The league file creations work without a hitch.
