one league wont open

ive been playing a league for some time now and suddenly it wont open. if i move the folder (so OOTP4 doesnt auto-load it) the game will load the default career.lg folder just fine. however when i try and load my league the opening league bar shoots up quickly and the game closes with the error "OOTP has encountered a problem and needs to close" from win.

im running Win XP pro with 256 mb RAM and plenty of hard drive space. as i said, it works fine for other leagues just not this one. i dont want to lose my data, any options? the last time i played this league it was fine and shut down fine. ive tried rebooting and it didnt help.

anything i can do?

thanks

no, with all other leagues it loads fine and plays fine, and has in fact (let me just find some wood to knock on...) never crashed in any other circumstance.

What folders do you have under the .lg file? If you are missing one you'll have problems.

same problem

Hi - I am having the same problems. I have written an email to Markus because this happened tome before and I lost so much time and data. Now I'm ticked because it did the same thing again, and I don't want to lose all of my hard work. I also have a computer that is very, very capable for this program (WINXP, 256Ram, AMDAThlon 1800+, 64MB Video, etc.)

I checked the league file and compared it to the 2002.lg that is the default league (which I haven't touched at all, so I figured it would be okay to compare) and I have all of the same files in that folder. On top of the same dat files (coaches, parks, players, records, special, teams, teams2, weather, league, parkconfig, promos, schedule, trade) I also have these dat files - draft, messages, retired, spring, story. Also, I have two text documents - one called glog (about 'Vincent Guzman' and his game by game stats - not complete, though) and one called scouting (that says:
"5Scouting Report on Luis Loney :
4 Luis Loney has the makings of a front line starter, shows real composure on the mound
4 no matter the situation. His move to first is deceptively good, he does tend to loose
4 focus from time to time and it is then when guys run on him, and his defense doesn't
4 normally hurt his game, but neither does it help as he does an adequate job with the
4 glove.")

Do you think that these two text files could be the problem? What should I do with them, or am I missing other files?

Please help.

Thanks.

Damon

Sounds like you have all the files needed. One thing that you need to remember is that a computer is going to have it's share of glitches, fragmented files, errors, etc that there just isn't anything that anyone can do to prevent.

Have you run scan disk and defrag lately? Did you use the "fill minors" command?

Not sure anything can be done BUT it is always good to just make a backup copy of your entire league folder after each season, that way if there is a problem you may not have to start all over.

fill minors

I think that I used the fill minors command and then performed many other actions before the crash.

Why would that have mattered?

Anyway, we'll have to see, but I'm not happy to have to restart.

byw - how do you back up your league after every season (I've seen the option, never used it though).

Fill minors is something that just never has worked very well and at times I feel it can create some issues.

A real simple way to backup is go into the OOTP4 folder through windows and just select your entire "XXXX.lg" folder and use the copy command and rename it. Or you can use the backup command within the game either way.

I can understand your feelings, I've been there many times(though it has been with other games mostly).

Just to let you know that you are not alone, I'm sorry to hear about that but making a backup(something I need to do more as well) can help.
