Post Trading players to computer

Sorry. I'm going to pester you guys again. I'm not patient enough to wait until the release of the game!

Just say I have a player who has just had a career year, basically playing above his potential, posting offensive numbers that are quite high for his ability. If I wanted to deal him, would I get value in return for him regarding his stats or would the trading AI still base any deal on what that players ratings are. In other words, do the stats count towards a players value when trading with the AI?

In my experience, the computer AI generally seems to base its decisions on ratings rather than stats.

I've also seen the computer put more emphasis on ratings in trades. If you think about it, it makes since in most situations. When you deal somebody, it's usually because you have a lot of depth at that position, so odds are that the player you're dealing might not have much playing time. In these instances, the focus on ratings is to your benefit. Conversely, in situations like you described, it can hurt you a little.

I believe the trade & draft AI only takes ratings into consideration, that's how that is coded in most sports sims anyway.

Cool

This brings up an interesting question, however... In the "real world" General Managers don't have "ratings" to put into a spreadsheet or equation to see how balanced a trade is. It's "gut feel" ... probably looking at the players history, talent, and recent stats. It does make you wonder if the AI shouldn't use the same logic - however (and this is a BIG however) if you go this route, you (as the REAL human) alos can't know the ratings, at least the detailed ones.

It might be interesting to think of this scenario... change what "we" see and what the AI "sees" so talent and recent history are the "prime" factors used in a trade scenario... would be more "true-to-life" and could result in some interesting trades......

ps: Brought this up only for discussion of an idea - not a recommendation that what's there is flawed

For computer controlled teams why not have a couple items on the team setup screen for "GM's favorite pitching stat" and "GM's favorite hitting stat"? There could be a dropdown list with things like batting average, OPS, Ks, and things like ERA rating, or K rating, or Hits rating. Then that team could be like Billy Beane and the A's (taking OPS above all other stats) or Cam Bonifay (I'm not sure what stats you'd use to come up with a whole team of Pat Meareses and Derek Bells...).

I'll play the devil's advocate.

I don't know, that could get rather complicated and/or convoluted. It's a good idea, but I don't really see how it could be practically implemented.

In all honesty, I feel that simplicity controls everything. We should all learn that not everyone has all the time in the world.
