Demo time limit - news from London

Having had a meeting in London today, one of the issues that I discussed with Markus was the demo timeout length of 14 days.

I asked Markus if OOTP6 when it was released had such a limit, and he told me it used to have a 7 day limit. We talked some more and we have decided to change the limit to 30 days for the next patch.

I hope this gives people enough time to evaluate 1.0.2 and decide if they wish to pay for the full version.

Of course, I'm going to look at resetting the counter for those people who have already used up their 14 days so they can get the full benefit of this change

Why would this be a concern? The previous demo had patch 1 included. If I knew that there were going to be multiple demos and that I was only going to be allowed to play 1 of them (unless, of course, the next demo was released within the 14 days (or 30 days, whichever)), I wouldn't even bother.

I'm really confused.

Thanks Marc. That seems a reasonable attempt to deal with the problem.

I think this 30 days is good way to make sure people enjoy the game and hopefully we will hear less people say they hate the game and want a refund. Now they can try it out for 30 days and know if they like it and if they don't then no more refund talk.

There never was a time limit I could find. I can still play it without any alterations whatsoever (I guess a later version removed this)......

Why not after all the problems with the game, follow the later rather than the former model?

I'm glad that potential buyers might soon be able to mull the impact of PCM vs. MLE vs. league stats for 30 days instead of a mere 14 days.

I wonder if providing a definitive statement of MLE vs. PCM has ever appeared on any agenda and what the decision was.

Decision. End of story. It is what it is. Will still leave alot of ?????? considering there will be no offseason to see. Of course I am assuming it will still cut off at the All-Star break. Correct?

Assume so. If you are going to limit the demo, why then not allow people to experience the full game (with it shutting down after the trial). That is how just about every trial period game works?

Um, you can have as many postseasons as you want, as long as you squeeze it in before the 30 days are up...

Did I miss something?? Isn't the demo currently unrestricted other than the 14 day period? Or have I not played it enough???

Thanks, I think this is a good compromise. Now I just need to get the family out of the house for a few days so I can take advantage of this.

Yep, you have an opverall 14 days to play the game. They are saying they will now make it 30. But it caps at the All-Star break.

SI, do one or the other...

What sense does that make?? Ugh, I guess it's a good thing I never got as far as the All-Star Break in my 14 day trial or I would've been pissed. Agreed, 30 day full version or unlimited All-Star Game version. To combine the two is silly. Companies sometimes just baffle me with their logic.

Actually, the demo stops after 6 months of in-game play. If you play a short season, or start it very early, you can get to the post-season within that time. In one of my demo games, I got to the 1st game of the final series before the demo ended And I haven't been able to buy the full game yet...

I guess that is good news, I am just surprised people have this much trouble making up their mind.

when I download a demo I can usually tell within an hour or two if I want to purchase and certainly within 24 hours.

For me the 14 days is enough time, but not being able to complete 1 season and the following offseason......you could give me 3 months and I'm still not sure I would buy. Just my opinion though (standard disclaimer). If I could get through the first offseason then I would know if I was going to buy or not no question at all because I would have seeen all there is to see.
