Can you clear career stats?

Is there any way to wipe the record books clean when you start a historical league in a certain year so only stats which were created from playing the game count towards career stats? I usually like starting in the late 80's/early 90's and would like to pretend like the league just started at that point. Nolan Ryan usually retires after the first season with an untouchable strikeout record, which is kind of a let-down. If there's a simple way to do this which I'm missing (I'm known for looking past the obvious) please let me know. Thanks!

Okay, well I'm also open to complicated and/or tedious ways to do this if anyone has any such suggestions.

A bug, I think...

This must be a bug that should be corrected (I hope) in the first patch.

The expanded manual suggests that the deletion of career stats should occur if you de-select an option in the import dialog (sorry, at work, don't have it in front of me). I discovered yesterday while trying to set up a historical league that this function wasn't working, which was a bit frustrating. After exploring the interface for what seemed like hours, I could find nothing like the simple "press the button and career stats are gone" feature in OOTP 6.5.

Until this feature is implemented, I won't be doing any historical leagues, because I'm a neurotic perfectionist...

If you have version 6,you can create your league in it,erase all career stats, then import into 2006,as of now thats the only way i know of.

Thanks! One of those "why didn't I think of that?" moments...

Not a bad idea at all. Do you know if there are any huge differences between the player creation process in 6 and 2006?

Except if you're doing a historical import, then you're going to import players with 6.5's code about imports instead of OOTP2006.

But if it is in the manual, then maybe it just needs to be debugged and brought to the surface. I hope so, I have ideas where I would want to have blank record books.

Looking at the expanded manual again, it looks like I mis-read and mis-understood the description on page 65, in the table under "Keep this season’s statistics in player career stats".

So perhaps what I've been calling a bug is really a feature, as they say.

But seriously, I think it's really a requirement to be able to clear the previous season stats. I'm sure I'm not in the minority when I say I like to start with a clean slate in my historical leagues.

Regarding the import of 6.0+ leagues that have had the career stats cleared, I tried that last night with disappointing results. The career stats were gone, but the player hometowns were all set to "Unknown", which I guess is predictable and understandable given the differences between the database structures of the two versions.

I sure hope it's on the to do list. Heck, historicals notwithstanding, there could even be reasons for fictionals to want to run leagues for a certain number of years, then blank the record books.

It seems like it should be in the Game Setup area. League setup might be difficult, because if you have multiple leagues, then you might have issues with blanking out lines from a player's multi-league career.

This is an excellent point, and I bet it's probably why we don't see the option implemented yet: it might be a coding bear to try and set something up where you wipe the career stats for just one league, when that league includes (perhaps) numerous players who have spent time in other leagues... A bit of a can of worms. Seems like, as you say, doing the clear while in Game Setup is the cleanest, "easiest" way to make this work.

I agree. Implementing it in league set-up seems like it should be a simple core feature leading down the line to the Coding Bear (great phrase) that would be the extended use mentioned in your post.

Has there been any word as to whether this will be an option in a future patch/update?

No, I don't think this is in.

Could someone please post this over in Tech Support? I'm fairly certain this isn't in there yet...

Well thats not good at all.

Playing the demo for last two days and I am really impressed.

But I absolutely willl NOT buy the game if this is a fact. Another instance of waiting paying off. It becomes more and more worthwhile after years of rushing out to get the lastest sports games.

Nope. Battists offered a response in this thread. I'm not holding out much hope. It's unfortunate but I'll find a way to go on.

Wouldnt this be better in Suggestions than in Tech Support.

I think I speak for a lot of people that didnt bother to post in this thread when I say we would rather have the bugs fixed before you add features like this for a minority of the users.
