Where'd the money go
I am having an issue in my league. We do not have a salery cap. When we converted from OOTP 3 to OOTP 4 every team in the league lost money. In fact one team lost 19 million dollars in money.
It seems to be all in Broadcast money as far as I can tell. Now I know the easy fix is to just edit the numbers but what I want to know is was there a reason the game took this cash away....will adding it back in have a negative effect on the financial engine??

There is no particular reason. It will not impact the game to give the money back.

v.4 makes a mess of finances when you import a v.3 league - here's what our league did:

This could be due to the fact that for v4 the finances were totally reworked(not certain though), should still not mess things up when converting. Atleast you should still have a copy of the league in v3 and be able to edit things that get messed up.

Steve and Scott,
Thank you for the reply. The question still remains WHY did the game take so much in broadcast money away? Is there a reason or is this a major conversion issue?

It's a major conversion issue, unless the patch fixed it.
I think the original idea was to adjust for the change in ticket pricing, but it plays haywire with everything. I tried to find the answer for a while when I first encountered it, but no one seems to know.

Just realized that link doesn't work - here's the (pared-down) text of the commish explanation to the league:
I had to do substantial editing to make the finances transfer correctly. There were some major problems. I posted on the OOTP boards to find answers, and received none, though they're usually very responsive, so I was on my own. There were two basic problems: 1) they changed the ticket prices, which has some ramifications; 2) there is a flat-out bug in the transfer. The ticket prices changed from a $4-10 range to $1-20, and the default changed from $7 to $10. I haven't gotten confirmation on this, but I assume (and it looks to me so far) that a $10 price will now get you about as much attendance as a $7 price used to do. This means that each team will make 10/7 of the attendance money as before, and we'll all be rolling in dough. That wouldn't be a problem except that it gives a big advantage to teams who have a lot of guys already signed long-term, b/c they won't have to shop the (now inflated) FA market as much. To solve this, I decided to reduce each team's merchandising revenue by the same amount as its attendance revenue will increase. For example, if your team had a total attendance of 3 million last year, and a ticket price of $7, your attendance revenue was $21 million. Your attendance revenue will now increase to $30 million (3 million times $10). Accordingly, I reduced your merchandising revenue by $9 million. I thought of reducing merchandising and broadcasting both proportionally, but since the league voted for broadcasting revenue sharing, I thought it would violate the spirit of the rule change to suddenly drastically reduce those numbers. The transfer software apparently tries to do something similar, but instead makes a total mess of it, changing all the numbers with no apparent logic. As far as I can tell, it's just a glitch. So here's what I did: 1) Imported the v.3 file into v.4. 2) Made last year's attendance revenue equal the original figure times 10/7. In many cases, this is just what v.4 already did, b/c it made every ticket price $10, and recalculated AR accordingly, so if you had a $7 ticket price that's what you got. 3) Subtracted from each team's merchandising (as shown in v.3) an amount equal to the increase in AR just entered in step #2. 4) Corrected the broadcasting numbers, to keep them the same as in the v.3 file.

The only figure that I found that was different in the conversion was the broadcasting revenue (other than ticket prices of course). All other numbers were identical. So, when converting, at the least you'll have to modify the broadcast revenues for every team. If you want them to make the same amount of money, you'll have to also cut down their revenue numbers as outlined by obaslg above.
