Big Hurt sues two Sox doctors

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...-sportsnew-hed

(you have to register or use BugMeNot to read the article)

In a nutshell, Thomas claims that the docs misdiagnosed his broken foot in Jue of 2004, which he continued to play on for another few weeks before the team podiatrist ordered an MRI and the broken bone was discovered. Thomas is claiming that resulted in the Sox not picking up is $10 million option for 2006, which in turn led to him signing the incentive-laded deal with Oakland.

For the record, the party being sued is Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, and the Sox are not actually involved in the case.

He should thank them for giving him such a cool nickname.

Big Hurt has always been my favorite player. Sucks that everything went down like this.

Sounds similar to kerry wood. Although i don't believe he's sueing. It's shame that these guys who relay so heavily on their bodies can't even get diagnosed correctly.

I would believe cases like this might lead to athletes paying premium for medical service.

I am not sure that it would be legal to doctors/hospitals to base their rates on the occupation of the patient. Any lawyers out their??

Of course they can put a premium on the health care package. Cases like this would establish a good base of high insurance cost for athletes.
