Has anyone tried this with an 1871 start?
I'm fairly new to this, so please tell me if I'm wasting my time or if this was already brought up before, my apologies.
Since the Lahman database can't be imported prior to 1901, why can't all of the database dates be changed by 100 years and imported normally? This way, if you wanted to start in 1871, then you start a new game in 1971 and go forward. True, the historical years would be off, but if you could deal with that, it seems like it would work without having to do much in the way of modifications and work arounds.

It does work by the way. I added 100 years onto the dates in the batting, fielding, fieldingOF, and pitching .csv files. I then added 100 years onto to the birth dates and debut years in the master.csv file. I then added 1 team to the original number and created an AL and NL in the teams .csv file.
Since I am planning on starting from scratch with a re-draft, I put all players on one franchise in the master.csv file as well. All players imported normally and I then released them all for the re-draft. I'm planning on trying this again with 16 franchise, 8 in the AL and NL, letting the program create fictional players to fill out the teams and a AAA level.

Cool Papa Bell - I did this same experiment last year. I thought it was going to be a nifty workaround as well, but there is a problem. OOTP stops looking at the DB for rookies after 2005. So when you get to 2006 in your league, which will actually be 1906, the game will not import any real rookies and will just generate fictional players.
There is a link to an 1871 Quickstart file in my signature. I will need to make a new one soon since there are a couple minor problems with it. Other people have also created some 1871 QS files too. |
