The WMLB Fictional Facepack (Female Players)

Inspired by Killebrew's fictional facepacks, I started scouring university women's softball teams for photos, and quickly reached 500. I'm sharing them here in case anyone else likes the idea. Anyone, of course, is welcome to contribute...

Why? Because nobody else has done it for OOTP (to the best of my knowledge), and I'm having fun doing it.

My goal is 1000 photos, but that may be a few weeks away. Next on the agenda is a female first_names.txt file, then the in-game commentary file. I think this would cover the majority of gender references in the game; I don't think the news articles texts can be changed, and player heights and weights would have to be manually altered, but these can also be easily ignored.

All players in the facepack are wearing uniforms, most are not wearing caps, and the team logos are not visible on all except 20 or so photos. All files are in the "player_xxx.jpg" format.

Sample photos:

All 500 photos can be found at: http://members.cox.net/new-wave/OOTP...20Facepack.zip

this would be worth checking out just to see some of the butch softball players and the hot Jenni Finch types.

Porb, I think putting together a facepack of female players is a good idea.

For kuma78, below is a link to my website of softball player photos.

Why? Wouldn't it be fun to see a 6'7" 265 lb female southpaw on the mound? That's actually an interesting point you're raising, because the 1870's American male is so much smaller than the 21st Century American male due to better diet and health care. Almost cries out to be a customizable element . . .

You are in luck, my friend, as I am now compiling photos from the National Pro Fastpitch League, and Ms. Finch, as a member of the Chicago Bandits, will be player#620.

w00t! So will the process be similar to changing in-game commentary? The Customization Guide's section on that will hopefully be completed by the time I reach that point.

Body mass & height coefficients? Count me in. I'd even settle for a on/off toggle for displaying height/weight.

I was inspired by your work and decided to compile a photoset made up of entirely animals. Nobody has done this yet and I just thought it might be interesting to have a monkey on the mound striking out like a....pig for instance. Here are some samples:

To be honest, changing 'he' to 'she' is a piece of cake and can be done in almost any freeware xml editor. I'll rattle one off the now.

EDIT: Changed the latest english.xml to swap every 'H/he' to 'S/she' and 'H/his' to 'H/her', as well as some of the harder to spot ones. It's 2.5mb - anyone want to host it?

I have made a low priority feature request on this issue to be considered for the next version of the game.

I have a pretty good female first name file I put together a couple years ago for a potential dynasty league idea I never followed through with. You can take a look at that if you like. It has 5,000+ names.

All this is making me think that I should set up a wee historical quickstart based on the 40s women's league? Send me that file, LL!

I was going to use the SSA website, where you can get the top 1000 names and frequencies of each name for any year (might still be good for historical simmers), but your file sounds even better!

I'm at new-wave(at symbol)cox.net

Thanks!

I can host it; I have lots of webspace available, and I can be reached at new-wave(at symbol)cox.net.

BTW, can you recommend a good freeware xml editor? I can sense I'll need one soon.

I think that's what I started with but I thought I found a list with 5,000 names - it's been awhile so let me verify. Then I went through and changed it more to my liking. Let me dig around.

File sent, and I also sent it to the Mod Squad.

For OOTP XML editing, if you want to change individual entries the best option is obviously the super OOTP Text Editor (see the xml editing forum here), which clearly marks exactly what you're editing each time. If you want basically to have simple text editing features (Find/Replace etc.) plus loads of things I don't know how to use, I use a quick, powerful, free thing:

http://www.firstobject.com/dn_editor.htm

... which does the job...

First, I finished the second group of photos; these are numbered 501-1010. I ran a little over, but I think the photos are pretty much done. I would have liked had a little more varied ethnicity, but I can only take what is out there.

Now, my responses (done in 1 msg to keep my post count artificially deflated):

File received! It will be available for download in a day or two, after I look it over. Thanks!

File also received, and another thank you! The name file will also be up shortly.

Really? Right on...though I can already hear the naysayers complaining they can run a league of pygmies, but feature X still hasn't been implemented.
