Some notes:
The premise of the league is the East versus the West with the focus being the coasts of the indicated sides. Teams in play are: The East: Boston Redsox Indianapolis Speed Jacksonville Jacks New Orleans Chocolate – In honor of Mayor Ray Nagin New York Yankees North Carolina Stars Philadelphia Athletics Tennessee Spokes Virgina Beach Surf Washington Senators The West: Arizona Inferno Chicago Whitesox Detroit Tigers Houston Rockets – after Clemens Los Angeles Dodgers San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants Seattle Sailors St. Louis Cardinals I well be at the helm of the Washington Senators who have the 17th pick in the Inaugural Draft. |

After the Giants made the 27-year-old RF Jose Romanillos the first pick in the draft, there was a run on pitching with seven of the next nine picks being pitchers – including a closer @ number three overall. Immediately proceeding our pick was the selection of five more starting pitchers.
With our pick we bucked the trend and selected 24-year-old RF Jose Herrera who is a near perfect hitter. Herrera is rated 20 out of 20 in contact, 18 out of 20 in Gap Power, and 20 out of 20 in home run power. His one weak spot in his 14 out of 20 eye rating but he does have a potential of 18 in that area. Joe Morgan will be happy to know that Herrera is rated a 19 at sac bunts. He moves around the bases well with ratings of 10 in running speed, 13 in stealing bases, and 9 in baserunning instincts. |

Just six picks later, the pitching craze is still warm. We went with another RF – 32-year-old Larry Brandenburg: another fine hitter. 16 in contact, 20 in gap and 17 in power. But just a 10 in eye. Neither he nor Herrera handle left well so Brandenburg figures to be trade bait.

With the hitting talent beginning to dwindle away, we elected to go with a pitcher. Javier Solgato. Solgato is ranked 16 in stuff and 9's in movement and control. I am not sure if that's anygood, but it was best available.

Leopoldo Troncosa is the next to go in our quest to cobble a rotation together. 15-6-8.
