Can I?
Create a fictional league and then populate with MLB players from the Laham database to draft onto the fictional teams. If I can, how do I do it?
I've just bought OOTP 2006 and I'm just finding my feet so any help is gratefully received. Last edited by Wot the Devil?; 06-09-2006 at 03:46 AM. |

I don't believe the game is set up for this, but I think there is a way of doing what you want. It may sounds more difficult than it really is, but it only involves copying one file to overwrite another (as an aside, I haven't done it personally so I'm unsure if it truly works):
First create a separate historical (ie - Database-generated) league. Then, generate your fictional league with an inaugural draft. After this is done, swap the player.dat files by copynig the historical and pasting it over the fictional (they're found in: game directory -> data -> saved games -> your game's name.lg ). At this point, you should be able to open up your fictional league and have the draft populated with real players. I hope that helps, and if anyone knows any better please don't hesitate to correct me.

I'm going to try this out as well, I hope it works....this is precisely what I've been dying to do, hold a draft of real players.\

I've tried this several times, unfortunately the game crashes every time I try to do a search on players or when I get to the inagural draft there are no players there . I've also tried overwriting the names.dat file with the one from the historical league and that doesn't help either.

Rats, sorry guys - I hoped it would work. By the way, the names.dat file is only used for generating new names. I'll ask around to see if anybody else has other ideas.

I just figured out something where you can do this.
I opened up a quickstart game. The quickstart was MLB2006 which you can find in the MOD section. Once in there or any other quickstart where you have the actual names and go to: GAME SETUP Under GAME SETUP make sure yuou have the MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL structure up in LEAGUE SETUP. Click on the bottom IMPORT/EXPORT. EXPORT the roster. It will tell you the name of the roster and where it is after its exported. Now go back into the league you created. Do the exact same thing as above but IMPORT instead. Find the roster you made above and it will be imported. It worked for me. I now have Major LEague players and they are on the right team. Pure luck I figured this out. |

I'm not sure if that's what he wants. I'm my impression that he wants to create a fictional leage and do an inaugural draft of players from a historical year.
If that's the case, here's a thread that explains how to do it... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...al#post1713055 Last edited by Eric; 06-10-2006 at 07:06 PM. |
