OTBA: The Perth Highlanders come to town
Hey all
As in my tradition of league-based dynasties that seem to follow my leagues, I'll be making one of my recent aquisition in the OTBA, the Peluca Endurance, and moving them up north and making them my own as only I can (lucky for them.. )So if you like, follow along and see the wacky adventures that we try to get into and who knows; maybe we'll win a game or two as well

Peluca Purchased by former OTBA owner, changes in the wind
PELUCA - Rumours of the sale of the Peluca Endurance finally came to fruition today as the estate of Luis Rivera announced that they found a buyer for the team. After being unanimously approved by the OTBA League owners, canadiancreed, former charter owner when the league formed in 2004, the sale became official.
Chris Creed had been one of the original owners in the OTBA when it formed in 2004, but met with roadblocks during his brief tenure with the Konvicts. The team moved to Ottawa soon after inception due to a lack of revenue, and then business matters forced the sale of the team after three un-remarkable seasons. He was brought back by new management after ihatenames experienced health issues as a result of too much poutine consumption, but was again out of a job by the end of the year after the team would slump under his one year reign. Since then cc has by his statement "sorted out his demons and streamlined his life". We're not really sure what that means, but he did seem to be far less stressed. Or maybe that was just the alcohol that he seems to always have with him. The previous owner, Luis Rivera, captained the Endurance to the OTBA's first championship, but as his team slowly slid down the standings, so did his sightings. He had disappeared entirely in early October after taking a business trip to Jamaica. No-one had heard from him until January when a letter showed up from him, in manic writing, saying to sell everything, he had found heaven and was never leaving. They're sure it was from Rivera; the paper was made of hemp and had an overpowering air of recently ignited marijuana. With the very few fans still left in Peluca that actually care about the time, concern about whether the team will be moved are the topic of the day. Well that and where to get cheap munchies. Only time will tell as to the fate of the Endurance, and if their "endurance" has finally run out.

Peluca fans perplexed, rumours of stars and even the team on the way out of town
Peluca - IN what could be the most excitement since owner Luis Rivera was busted in a canibus raid at Boston College with five co-eds, news is starting to flow out of the Peluca club on some recent grist for the rumour mill.
And none of it is good for fans of the team. From an anaymous source, reports that 1B Dumond was unhappy with the team and wanted to play for a winner have recently come to light after a verbal outburst with interm manager Chris Creed shortly after the sale of the team. Reports of negociations with New Jersey for his services only fueled the fires. When asked about the validity of the these reports, Chris Creed replied "Not on your life! We'd be a fool to trade away our team's cornerstone for success.". Dumond was not reachable for comment. The reported deal featured sending Calhoun and Nottingham, along with other non-disclosed options. As if this wasn't enough to worry the few Peluca faithful thaty are left, Forbush has been mentioned repeately in trade rumours after an error in the offical trade block was released having his name on it. Offers have been reportably been made by New Jersey, Mindenhall, the Locals, and Fort Collins. One report even had Forebush as part of a package that would have seen CF Vidal sent to Peluca in exchange. WHen asked about these, Forebush was quite flattered. "Being considereed good enough to be traded for an All-Star like Vidal is a great honour. Defiantely a great way to give a guy an ego boost". Chris Creed stated that the offer was flattering and he'd love to coach Vidal again, who was his starting CF in Kingston/Ottawa, but he didnt' fit the team at this time. And to prove that bad news comes in threes, reports from multiple sources have come in that the Peluca Endurance could be heading to a town near you. Rumours of new locations are Amsterdam, Nanaimo, Bangkok, Perth, Toronto, and Bogota Columbia. When asked, Chris Creed replied "This is news to me.". Never the less, the rumours are consistent about the team leaving. We asked the few fans that we could find what they thought about the possible move, but they passed out while smoking some reefer before we coudl get an audiable answer. So defiantely a lot of news coming out of Peluca these days. Maybe one day, some of it will be good.

Peluca heads north, keeps Canadian quota of league intact
Perth - Rumours of the Peluca Endurance heading out of town became official today, as the new team owner announced the move across the border. The announcement came soon after the league office announcing the Ottawa Konvicts had been purchased by a Maryland-based syndicate and would be moving at the end of the year, squashing a potential Canadian rivalry. Chris Creed, the original owner of the Kingston/Ottawa Konvicts was disappointed at hearing the news.
"I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't disappointed at hearing the Konvicts are heading south. It's the second team heading out of the country and seems to be mirroring how things are going as a whole here over the last few years (in reference to Toronto moving to Armadillo, and Ottawa moving at the end of the year). I believe that there is a healthy market for OTBA baseball here in the North, but it seems that few want to tap into it, preferring to take the first train out of Dodge even before the ink is dry. Quite disappointing indeed" The team's new logo was also shown today, wit the new team name next year being announced as the Perth Highlanders, a reference to the area's Scottish heritage and the local geography that the town resides in. Details on the team’s new stadium were not unveiled at this time, although owner Chris Creed did confirm that construction was underway, although behind schedule due to a dynamite shortage in the area. Assurances were made that it would be ready for opening day. Peluca would leave never being able to experience the peak that it reached in its first season, winning the OTBA championship. It would slink to the second division and reside there for the rest of its history. New rookies coming up have some scouts giving this team a must-watch label due to the skill of the youth on this team. It just wont' be found in Peluca next year.

New Peluca Owner/GM makes a splash, deals ROY in shocking three team move
The moving trucks hadn't even arrived in Perth, but already the Highlanders are making it known that this owner isn't afraid to deal. In intense negociations in the OTBA's winter meeting and the first of many draft pick deals, the Perth Highlanders sent off last year's Rookie of the Year and estranged star Jeffery Dumond to the recently renamed New Jersey NightHawks for the Brat's 1st round pick, who they received New Jersey's 6th and 7th picks in the first round for.
The reaction in the GM circles was one of shock, but that's the only reaction that was consistent for everyone. Each team was looked to have gotten the raw end of the trade, with Perth being too trigger happy, to New Jersey "trading Calhoun and two draft picks for Dumond". The fact that so many had opinons on the trade was proof that it defiantely made an impression. Our reporters went out to catch the reaction to this season's blockbuster. "IMO, Johnsonville made out like a bandit here, Perth made a lateral move and NJ got pillaged." - J. Heinz, GM of the Happytown Heroes "It was a good trade for Johnsonville and I guess Perth because Dumond was a good player but Cohn is probably going to be better. Johnsonville now gets two picks to help with the rebuilding. New Jersey is okay in this trade beacause Cahoun wasn't going to be signed anyway, but they had better offers on the table. In the end they traded a great power 1B and outfielder for 1 great power 1B that is a little cheaper. " - Jacksonville Blayze GM "Johnsonville finally looks like they are doing something right!" - Will Edwards, cynical Brats fan "New Jersey is getting screwed in this deal, they could have gotten a lot more. #6 and #7 would have been stars also." - Terry Karronesh, incested NightHawks fan. "New Jersey improved their team and Dumond is going to be fun to watch." - Nancy Roberts, pleased NightHawks fan "Jersey made out BIGTIME in this one. Pelu-, I mean Perth got their **** ruined....oh man I've got the munchies.." - FOrmer Peluca owner from undisclosed location in Thailand. "Personally I'm glad Pel-I mean Perth traded me. Imean who the hell wants to play for a team that is moving to Canada? I mean they havnet' clued in that the country sucks for baseball? I'll defiantely be on my game next year now that I"m playing on a team that can actually win a game or two, instead of playing in freakin SIberia with the Eskimos! Good riddance!" - ROY Jeffery Dumond. Defiantely a variety of emotions and press involving a team that hasn't even gotten a chance to unpack yet. Will this be the start of something beautiful in Perth, or the beginning of more mediocrity for this embattled franchaise? Only time will tell, but at least it'll be an intresting ride to watch along the way in their maiden season.
