I feel really sad for Cisse. For him to break both legs whilst playing in matches must be heart-breaking, especially this one so close to the World Cup.

I hope he can come back from this injury, but I just wonder if this might be the end of his top flight career - a lot of Liverpool fans wanted the club to get rid of him this summer anyhow.

I certainly hope its not the end of his career. Id imagine he would be out till Christmas at the earliest. It happened in a collision so lets hope its not the resut of any predisposition to leg injury.

33 hours 30 minutes to go...

I broke my tibia in half playing soccer 6 years ago...didnt hurt that bad, but I doubt it was the same type of fracture as his...I was out for 6 months rougly, so Christmas is a good estimation....good luck to him.

That's the point though, he's broken both legs now inside two years, and although he's only 24, how many teams are going to be wanting to invest money in him? As I said I hope I'm wrong, and as he's already come back from one break I know Cisse can do it again - but will anyone want him when he does?

sdmp100...if I were Cisse nad confident i would sign a one year contract and do what (the striker who took Monaco far in the CL a year or two ago..my memory fails me) did. One good year and any injury will be forgotten.

I know, you're probably right - I just feel hurt when I see someone get badly injured, and so I have my emotional pendulum swing to the worst case scenario, Just ignore me.

The striker you are talking about is Fernando Morientes, and that is exactly why if he returns to fitness you are dead right about someone wanting to take him. He was on loan from Real Madrid where they didn't want him anymore, and then after getting Monaco to the Champions League final, he got a transfer to Liverpool.

So you're right bababui, and I'm just too emotional.

Sdpm100 Ill be waking up at 6am Saturday to watch England dismantle Paraguay. Cant wait. Although its not the best hour to start drinking. I have a feeling that this will be the most wide open WC ever given the holes on Brazils defense.

Tough break, especially considering it was basically a meaningless match.

Yeah, although he has sucked at Liverpool.

Lol! You might be going to hell for this one.

FYI....Nazpolean McCallum and Joe Theisman are two American football players who had their legs broken in gruesome incidents on national TV.

Not a huge loss for France

9 goals in 30 caps against the chaff France plays against is nothing that will cripple your team when the player is a striker.

It's good to hear we have some Americans wanting to watch the World Cup - there may be some hope yet (soccer (MLS) only has to share their season with one major sport, so I can't see any reason why it shouldn't make any inroads on the American sporting landscape).

As for Brazil, I have them winning, but you are right - there defence is a weak link. But with their strike force they could score four goals on anyone, and unless you can stop them doing that, nobody will come close to challenging.

That is true, and that is why now that Cisse can't be sold to Marseille, Morientes will be out the Anfield door.

France won't get very far anyway - they haven't got the right manager. Domenech had to bring back all the oldies (Zidane, Makelele, and Thuram) just to qualify, and they only did that by beating Cyprus on the last day of qualifying.

And Cisse did score the most goals (4) for France in qualifying.

I know who Joe Theismann is - and I've seen the incident where he got tackled and had his leg broken.

Now Napolean McCallum I've never heard off.

If anyone wants to see the photo and read what happened in Cisse's first broken leg, you can click here (not for the squeamish)

Does anyone remember when the 49ers defender (was it Bryant Young?) had his leg broken? That was one of the most sickening injuries I ever saw. The other players helmet literally snapped his shin.
