I believe the formula for On Base Average is:
(Hits + Walks + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF) Is that correct? If so, OOTP is calculating this incorrectly. As far as I can tell, OOTP is including SF in the numerator as well. |

I thought so. If that's the case, then OOTP is calculating OBP incorrectly.

I'm really hoping that this will be corrected. I'm also surprised that no one has caught this before.

People have caught it. Make a player, type in "1" for his batting average. He will hit about .950 for the year and have an OBP of about .600

I think you may have missed my point.
If you go to a particular player page and look at his batting stats, the On Base Percentage figure is calculated incorrectly. Sacrafice flies are being included in the numerator and it should not be. OBP is arguably the most important offensive statistic and I'm very surprised it's wrong. |

In the career numbers it is calculated correctly though.

The career OBP is just (H+BB)/(H+BB+AB).
In most cases this will throw off the career OBP calculations by about .001 at most. Jason

I just found a pitcher who has identical AVG and OBP this season. He's 11-49 (.224 avg) with no walks, HBP, or SF. His OBP is listed as .224 as well (in both general stats and career), although he has 53 PA.

Except that OBP doesn't use PA.
It uses: (Hits + Walks + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF) So if the batter has no walks, HBP, or SF then his OBP will be the same as his batting average. Sac Hits do not count in the OBP calculation. |

Hmmm... looks like the stat is indeed calculated incorrectly. It will be fixed in the next patch.

Does this mean there will be career SF/HBP in the next patch?
Edit: Woops, I guess you're referring to the seasonal OBP calculations. Still, just another note that OBP for the career page is also incorrect. ![]() Jason
