Bit confused with Historical Imports

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about how importing Historical databases work. I have downloaded Lahman's database and installed into my game. All real players seem to be in there, but I see a lot of talk on the boards about people creating real major league roster sets??? How are these different than what is already in Lahman's database...real roster sets seem to be created there already, right?

I also noticed that when you import the Lahman database and start at say year 2005, no league history exists...like the World Series Champs, or Award winners from previous seasons.

So, my questions really are:

What's the difference between using this database and the 'real' rosters that are currently being created?

Should there be league history for years before the year you are currently starting in?

Thanks in advance for the help!

If you start in 2005 there will not be any league history for the league you created.

The difference between the Lahman DB and usere created roster sets is the roster makers will likely be focusing on making a 2006 set, with minor leagues in some cases. A good 2006 set will be more accurate in things like arm ratings for outfielders because someone is manually setting it for every player. The historical import with Lahman is limited a bit in that the ratings are being created strictly from the numbers in the database and are void of personal opinion on some ratings.

If you are just looking to play a modern day game I would suggest waiting for the roster makers to release their mods before getting too hooked on your league. In the meantime, why not try to import a past season and recreate some baseball history.
