Default minor league affiliates

I'm creating a MLB-like universe with the regular MLB settings along with the usual suspects as far as minors go (AAA, AA, A, SS-A, R). After looking through all the affiliates, it seems to me the default set gives the Padres one less affiliate than everyone else and one extra for the Mets. I know not everything is equal in real life, but I'm not so sure if this would give an advantage/disadvantage to franchises in OOTP2006.

The differences seem to pop up in short season A and rookie leagues. Most teams have two affiliates in those combined leagues. However, the Mets appear to have three (Brooklyn, Kingsport and a Gulf Coast team), while the Padres have just one (Eugene). Has anyone else noticed this? In looking through minorleaguebaseball.com, it appears that the Padres do have a Arizona Summer League team. So I could easily solve this problem by adding that team, or by simply changing the Kingsport squad to a Padres affiliate, but I'm just curious to hear if anyone else has run across this and done anything about it.

I can't believe how much time I've spent setting up this league, but I'm loving every minute of it!

Every team should have one affiliate in AAA (Internationa/Pacific Coast) and one in AA (Eastern/Southern/Texas). "A" is generally divided into High-A (California/Carolina/Florida State) and Low-A (Midwest/South Atlantic), with each team having one affiliate in each. Then, there is Short Season-A (New York-Penn/Northwest), Advanced Rookie (Appalachian/Pioneer), and Rookie (Arizona/Gulf Coast), with most teams having affiliates in two of the three. There are, of course, exceptions, such as the aforementioned Mets, and the White Sox, who have affiliates in both the Appalachian and Pioneer leagues. As for the Padres minor league affiliate in the Arizona League going missing, I can't help but think that this was due to the fact that the real-life Arizona League has an odd number of teams (nine), and that the Markus Heinsohn Scheduling Department does not like odd numbers of teams (and, implicitly, days off)

I noticed that the Padres got short changed in the Arizona League because the league set up would then have an odd number of teams (9) if the San Diego club was added.

Yeah... looks like adding a San Diego team in the Arizona League isn't going to work, so I think I'm just going to go ahead and change the Kingsport Mets (of the Appalachian League) to the Kingsport Padres.

Yes, that'd be the reason. Note also that the Gulf Coast League is missing the Indians' affiliate that was added this year bringing the circuit to 13 clubs.

Life would have been easier had MLB's proposed changes to rationalize the lower levels of the minors had gone through...
