I looked him up and it says he played a game but doesn't even have an AB. Is that right? was he just a pinch runner or defensive replacement?

Yes, he played one defensive inning in RF. He was one of the centerpieces of the movie Field of Dreams, if you remember. The old doctor turned back into a youth and was finally able to get an AB against the big leaguers of his day.
