Explain This To Me Please....

I want to go from 1901 to present day with a draft league and include Negro League players of my own creation. In OOTPBB2006, will I be able to:

1. Create these players within the game without having to edit the Lahman or use somebody elses edited data base?

2. Have those Negro League players I create within the game enter and leave the league when they did in real life?

3. Be able to play these seasons so that the real MLB players also enter and leave as they did in real life.

4. If I CAN do all this, what settings would I use?

I am looking forward to the use of modified DIPS to create realistic results too.

You're not going to be able to make anybody enter and leave as they did in real life because that's not what OOTP does. OOTP is primarily a fictional baseball simulator and secondarily a historical career simulator, meaning that the game uses real life players as a starting point but throws in a lot of unpredictability. Ty Cobb could, for example, suffer a career-ending injury his first season in the bigs and end with 40 hits rather than 4,000.

You should, if the game is anything like past versions, be able to import players and rookies from year to year and then add individual players on top of that. I think one of the modified Lahman databases has Negro Leaguers included, but don't quote me on that.

And there is no way to do a draft league.

Actually, you can do any of that, but a lot of it will have to be done manually. You're going to have to be prepared to edit guys that fall off the turnip truck by the dozen every year. The Garlon/Arod database is almost finished, and it includes Negro league players. You can manually edit players, manually duplicate actual trades, make sure Ty Cobb doesn't get hurt, and retire players when they actually did. I did most of that the first year I had the game. But you'll find that other games are better at duplicating real life, and in order to get the most out of this particular game, you have to embrace the unpredictability. It's not an easy mindset the first time around for people that like DMB and Strat, but you will learn to love the game if you stick with it.
