OOTP sim ultimate.

I have posted something like this before I think and am sure it has popped up before in discussion, but have been thinking about how much I am anticipating the new game and its occured to me that the biggest area of improvement I can see is not going to be added in this version.

What I think OOTP is missing is more financial sim depth and more stadium building/atmosphere depth. I know that Markus wants to get away from this. In fact I think I remember him saying in some interview that he is getting rid of promotions and will not include a feature where you can price your own hotdogs and soda's etc. So it's not his vision.

But I wanted to say that I think this direction is a fairly large mistake by OOTP. I think this is one element that is missing that would attract a larger market and in addition is a feature that many current OOTP fans would enjoy. Why?.....

....well when I think of baseball I think of the game, but I also think of baseball fields. I love baseball parks. I love the grass. I like the new stadiums with the retractable roofs (safeco). I like the dirt and the sounds. I like the smell of the food and the vendors. I like the mascot and the big scoreboard. The atmosphere for me is half of baseball. OOTP has no atmosphere.

If there was a stadium builder in the game where you choose grass, turf, roof, dome, park attractions etc. And if that feature was visual....!!! It would be something I'd spend a huge amount of time on. You could add luxury boxes, add batting cages and attractions for the fans. Choose to add concessions and souvenir stands. Hire a mascot. You could fiddle with financial aspects like different seating prices for different levels. Etc. Etc. Etc. To me, the business financials are of interest and kind of fun. I love the idea of building a park that is home to your team as well. I'd especially love to build a minor league park! This feature would round out the game for me and I think would draw in new fans of this wonderful game. It would be like the Sims meet OOTP (without all the little annoying people and simspeak).

These features could also be toggled 'off' as I know is important to so many purists in this game. Don't get me wrong. I'm a guy that loves baseball stats and I buy Baseball Prospectus just like a lot of you, but that is not the whole game. Its the meat of baseball, but its not the spirit. Come on, I know you have all dreamed it....owning your own team, building your own park....I know you have.

Anyway I wanted to give one out loud Please Please Please from me on this subject. I understand that I am in the minority of current OOTP users and that the game developers don't love this approach, but I have to speak up for the users that would like to play this game but see it as too daunting and statbased.

Enough said. Let the 'that is the stupidest idea ever' comments begin.!!

While those will not be options in the upcoming release, you can never rule out their appearance in future versions of the game. I think Markus is working hard to build this new version as the first of it's kind (meaning that it's a complete rewrite). While giving us what we need in this first version, I think he's going to enjoy giving us more options and features in future versions. OOTPB 2006 is all about setting new roots from which to grow on. I hope everyone supports this idea because the man wants nothing more than to give us all what we want in this great piece of software!

Thumbs up

I think something like this would be a good idea, but would probably take a lot of work.

im pretty sure some of the newerd baseball games for consoles (like MLB 2k6) already do this, but not sure. those games never interest me anyways. but i, for one, would like to see more of those kind of options to be available, if not for ootp2k6, but hopefully for future installments (maybe with new updates, like ootp2k6v5.6abc of anaheim, los angeles, southern, baja california....)

The thing about those options(vendors, mascots, etc.) is they have very little to do with baseball. Specifically, they're nothing a General Manager would be making decisions about. That's why I don't want to see them in the game. That's too much micromanagement that doesn't really effect anything.

That said, I wouldn't object to it being included if it could be turned off because...well, the more features that exist with the ability to be turned off, the better chance everyone will have a game they enjoy. Just because I don't want concessions doesn't mean they shouldn't be there if I can play without them. Just like if someone doesn't want VORP/coaches+scouts/free agency or whatever, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. The more things that we have the choice of using or not using, the more every player can customize this game to be as close to perfect as possible for him/her. To my mind, that's what makes this the best game of its kind.

OOTP has plenty of atmosphere. With all previous versions it was very easy to delve into your little universe and get lost in that atmosphere. With all that will be in the new version, in depth immersion and atmosphere will be abundant.

The types of things you are asking for do not interest me at all. This game is going to have so many different things for the manager to do now, the last thing I want to do is spend time pricing hot dogs and beer. That is above and beyond what this game is imo. I hope the day never comes when the "Sims meet OOTP". I want to manage a baseball team, not micro manage every tiny little detail of a Sim World.

I agree. And if something like this were included then I wish it could be disabled, because I really really don't want to have to deal with this kind of thing. For me even contract negotiation is too much. I like baseball and I like statistics. Money and vendors and luxury boxes are neither.

MLB06 The Show has these options. It takes away from the game and feels silly trying to deal with them.

I don't know... I think that I have to agree with the thread starter. These things ARE part of baseball, which is why it is called the American Pasttime. Now, if you are talking about the game itself? Well, no. But the reason that we all play this game is becuase we have all felt these feelings as children. I think this would be a welcomed addition to the game, but yes, it should be switched off if you don't want it.

I can remember wanting the Red Sox to resign or trade for my favorite players when I was a kid. I can't for the life of me ever remember yearning to set hot dog and soda prices at Fenway unless I was at the park and hungry on that particular day.

ya know, thats exactly what makes each version of the game better and better. theres more stuff added that wasnt in the previous version, making everyones experience better/different for each individuals.

however, i cant say that if mascot/vendor options werent ever included id miss it. theres already so much u can do to customize the game to create your very own universe.
