Have any testers run a historical league?

And if so, how are the stats coming out, esp. for deadball? Thanks, amigos.

I too would appreciate some feedback on Deadball Era, also any feedback on creating deadball fictional players.

Same here. I hope it won't be like 6.5 where everybody hits over .400

I've run tons of historical tests. Very satisfied so far. Deadball? How dead do you want it? You know Markus isn't going to leave this uncustomizable!! The season totals will be totally in your hands (to quote a recent slogan).

The problem with the old game was that you get ridiculously high batting averages which sky rockets the ERA. And I admit, I wasn't competitent (sp?) enough to mess with the values to get the right results. I would wind up sending HR's to high, or everyone would just hit singles, etc.

I don't know if I like deadball that much. Never could get into it I guess. What is everyone's draw?

Well, if you do a historical "recreation", you want the eras to match historic patterns. Its also fun to do fictional deadball and transition out of it into the power era.

He basically means that you can tweak the totals to how you want them using league totals and league modifiers.

You can do that now. Results are iffy.

I think the blog I wrote on modifiers probably covers most of what he could elaborate on. (Do a search for posts with the word "tweak" in the title.)

If someone could post some info about a historical season, we could probably tell you how it came out. For example: what season would you like to see, and what are the key outputs you are hoping to see?

Like

1948
average should be around .260
blah blah blah

Sorry, I'm not a historical simmer by nature, so you have to do baby steps with me.

Exactly. It is different, and thus a different challenge. You want starters, no need for bullpen, and guys who hit for average, since RBIs are waaaay down than modern ball.

Deadball Era actually calls for strategies other than sit back and wait for a homer. Hit and run, stolen bases, sac bunts all play a much larger role. Deadball baseball is more like playing chess while modern baseball is like pulling a one-armed bandit and waiting for the result.

jm47048, you should try it if you never have. It is a different game when a homerun is just a bonus and not a strategy.

So dead that not even a flatline appears.

So dead that you need three graves to bury it in.

So dead that a necromancer can't summon a spirit in it with a full ritual virgin sacrifice and an original copy of Abdul al Hazred's Al Azif that was written on human skin and has a full-strength elder djinn bound to it.

I'm talking *dead*.
