Pat Quinn fired

http://www.mapleleafs.com/news/news.asp?story_id=2023

Hardly a surprise. It's been a pretty horrible year coaching-wise for Quinn, as the Leafs missed the playoffs for the first time since 1998, and Team Canada failed to get past the quarterfinals in the Olympics.

Sorry to see the Pat Quinn era end but it was inevitable.

true. I'll miss the ineptitude, but that team needs new blood worse than any club in the NHL.

About time, I say. I never thought he was that great a coach, and all the Leafs teams under him suffered from the same problems.

It's been fascinating to watch Quinns' teams be so consistently incompetent on defence and so often be unmotivated to try and win games. I can't count how many times I've watched the Leafs come out absolutely flat against a weak opponent and give up easy points.

wel it is hard when you have maybe two talented players on the team that weren't washed up by the time they arrived in Toronto.

I liked it when Don Cherry called him "that ol' Irish guy in Vancouver."

I thought it strange that Pierre McGuire said last night on TSN how this was a terrible move by the Leafs! But he does say a lot of strange things, I guess.

Leafs in fooooooooooooore.

We got treated to the same analysis in Montréal newspapers and television reports, saying that Quinn more or less was the only good thing the Leafs have.

indeed. And wasn't he a semi-recent hire too?

Have the Leafs only had one decent GM since the late 60's (that being Cliff Fletcher)

They had Gord Stellick.

Oh you said "decent" GM.

They also have Jean-Sebastien Aubin, who will lead the Leafs to the 2007 Stanley Cup finals.

(my imitation of a deluded Leaf fan)

Cliff Fletcher is still my favourite. The 92-93 Leafs will be my favourite version of the team since there was a magic about that team and they were more about heart than $$$. That was also the year there should have been a Habs-Leafs finals...

Yep. More bad officiating deciding the results.

Question to Habs fans:

We know Toronto will always support the Leafs no matter how badly they suck. However, how do MOntrealers react to bad Habs teams? Do they stop showing up in the Bell Centre?
