Fictional simmers, have you tried this?

I was thinking of starting a league with the full forty teams,
But it would start in 0001 AD.
Wonder how large the files would be if i ever got to 2002.
I just thought well if your gonna do fiction why not go all the way.
I mean the players are fiction, so the cities could be fiction.
Then so could the start.
Maybe have teams build a new stadium every 100 years.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it .

Can you imagine the commentary if it was real?
" Harry how do you think the cubs look this year?"
" Well you know Skip the cubs havent won the world seies since
the crusades and their last pennant was during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I."

What an idea! Civ meets OOTP. Gotta be a winner! But if you put a team in St Louis, make them build a stadium every 35 years.

Here's what you could do: start in the year 1000 AD with 8 teams. Teams are in Dunisnane, London, Rome and Paris in the European league. Baghdad, Alexandria, Cairo, and Constantinople in the World League. Expand/Contract as necessary. Even better would be 1500.

i think someone had a celebrity name generator.
Would it be hard to make one using historical names so you could bean guys like Osama.
Seems like eventually you would have to change the name generator anyways cause wouldnt the computer start duplicating
names?

hey specs i like your idea about using different world citys.
Then it would truly be a world series.
Think i might actually try it.
No expectations or era settings, just generate the players and recalculate the league totals and if a guy hits 100 hr thats just the way it is.
What i want to do is let that league run while i work on my other 2.
Can you open up the game twice and run 2 leagues at once?

I did this by accident with OOTP3, but both instances were running the same league. I had this problem: Played some games in one app, then saved. When I closed the game, I realized the second app. was running, closed it, and it of course saved as well. I ended up with a mix of league status from the earlier/later versions of the same league. The games I had played were recorded in the standings but the players stats were not updated. No idea what else went wrong, since I just deleted the league and started over. If you had 2 instances of OOTP running different leagues, it might work though. You could always run some test leagues to check it out.

well i got stb3, so all i have to do is have the cd in when the game starts. Kinda annoying but i understand why.
So i guess what i could do is install the game into a different directory and try it that way. Cause it seems like i just need the cd to satrt the game.
Not trying to cheat ootp just wanna run one league while i work on the other.

I think the game might some troubles handling birthdates in BC, since they'd be negative in OOTP, but not 100 percent sure.

Didn't some people have troubles even with starting before 1900? I did one, tried to start a league in 1876, but had a problem with players advancing in age in future years.

well it did in ootp2 but i think ootp3 was ok.
i ran a league from 1871-1976 in stb3 and it worked ok.
Oh btw i was starting in ad not bc . i had thought that might cause problems.
i deceided to take specs suggestion and start in 1000 ad.
it will be my first fictional league.
i just thought why sim from 1900-2025 if its a fictional league.
why not go for broke.
might put some world leaders as managers and draw for their tendencys. What the heck its fiction.
in my other league ill worry bout keeping it real.
Like steve says its a game where anything can happen.
Either that or i m wishing Markus would make
call to power 3 since nobody else will.

In the past, I have attempted to run a league from the year 1000, but about 20 years into the league, the players were never changing age. Don't know why it happened, but I tried the league many times and it always happened. Here is a picture of one such player

edit - forgive the rather sloppy cut and paste production of the stats

I created a name file of totally ficticious 'monster' names.

Yes, I made a Monster League. I have some good, odd names and it is kind of funny to see.

I've also done a softball league- totally increased batting averages, decreased homeruns, etc. Fun.

I love fictional leagues.
