Post First Perfect Game In My League

Sunday 6/16/2003
Tampa Bay has no chance in a PERFECT GAME by Pedro Astacio

NEW YORK (N) - Pedro Astacio had a historical performance against Tampa Bay on Sunday, pitching a perfect game for his 2nd shutout of the season. The crowd of 40572 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Astacio (8-3) struck out 8 and walked none, throwing 60 of 90 pitches for strikes. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Joe Mcewing provided New York (N) with the offense Astacio needed as he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, doubling once, and driving in 2 runs. New York (N) scored 6 runs on 8 hits.

The first One I seen so far. Of course I only started this league 2002 and Its only 2003....But Its still amazing thing to watch.

Who are some of the players you guys have seen throw perfect games?

Thursday 8/8/2003
It's El Perfecto time for Adam Eaton against New York (N)

SAN DIEGO - Adam Eaton had his best stuff going, and New York (N) hitters were chanceless. San Diego's right-hander fired a PERFECT GAME, his 1st shutout of the season. The crowd of 34404 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Eaton (8-8) struck out 6 and walked none, throwing 60 of 98 pitches for strikes. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today, and it's especially nice to do it in such fashion.' The hitting star for San Diego was third baseman Phil Nevin, he collected 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, and driving in 4 runs. The final score of the game was 10-0.

Now If only someone on my team could learn how to pitch.....

In my History of Baseball with OOTP3 I had 11 perfect games in 100 seasons:

1902 Al Orth Phi(N)
1919 Chief Johnson Cin
1933 Ralph Birkofer Pit
1933 Bob Weiland CHI(N)
1935 George Hockette BOS(A)
1939 Mike Cvengros NYG
1953 Whitey Ford NYA
1957 Johnny Podgajny Phi(N)
1970 Jack Kralick Min
1986 John Montefusco SF
1997 Kirk Reuter Mon

I also had a no-hitter thrown in the World Series by Milwaukee's Chris Bosio in 1990 and back-to-back no-hitters by Hal Newhouser of the Yankees in consecutive starts in 1958. Newhouser actually threw three nohitters that season and is the all-time leader with 4. JR Richard, Dave Koslo and George Dumont are next with 3 each.

Btw, the first ever game in the American League was a no-hitter thrown by Boston's Cy Young.

As of 1908 in my historical sim, I'm still waiting for my first no-hitter. The new patch's increased pitching endurance should help matters. Five or six times I've had pitchers reach the 9th without giving up a hit, but just one got to within one out.

In my combination fictional / real players league, Al Olmsted threw a perfect game in his first career start and then proceeded to lose his next 10 decisions before finishing 7-12.

Tiger Fan out of the 11 perfect games you had I noticed 4 of them came In the 30's. When you simmed the 30's did It come accross as a pitchers decade? Or just by luck did 4 of them get thrown then.

Just by luck. Thirties were actually more a hitters decade in my league with many offensive reocrds being set at that time.

In my solo Metro Leagues there have been two perfectos thrown. I actually witnessed the one thrown by Kraly. What a treat!

- 4/18/1973, Johnny Kraly (CLE), 10 K, 0 BB
- 5/8/1976, John Rhodes (CIN), 11 K, 0 BB

A couple of no-hitters in 1908 broke the drought, with Heinie Berger (CLE) and Bill Foxen (PHI) both going 9 without giving up a hit. Although Foxen walked 9 and gave up 2 runs, but still won.

Had a very funny game one of my fictional leagues' World Series.

My ace starter, Joshua Bartholomew, 32-9 for the season. (first player ever taken, in the leagues opening expansion draft).

First game of the world series, I am simming, and I get THE MESSAGE....Joshua Bartholomew is throwing a NO-HITTER!

Cool...it was a (to that point) a perfect game.

First out, second out...third out....oops the second basemen booted it!!! The second baseman was (is) named for my boss, an avid baseball fan, who requires regular updates on how well "he" is doing! Do I tell him? Oh, the next player hits a double, I still win. Lost the series in six that year.

Pretty funny stuff.

I'm in my 2nd season using the sim...I had a perfect game on opening day by Don Mossi. He took a no-hitter into the 9th inning in early June also but lost it.
