Why have fielding allignments if they are just going to be useless? Not only can't you have both your outfield and infield in at the same time, but infield in at the corners is also useless. When the computer had guys on first and third with one out i put my corners in and expected the 2B and SS to try and turn a double play if it went to them and the 1B and 3B to stop the run from scoring. I guess I thought wrong. There was a hard hit ball to my first basemen who should have either went home or looked the runner back and go to first but he tries to start the double play and only gets the guy at second with a run scoring. This extra run ended up costing me the game. In the future I would appreciate it if you would only include things in the game that work properly. Besides this I love OOTP and keep up the good work.

Kez,
I like every part of the game except that. I just wanted to let them know it was a problem. I didn't want it to come off as me bashing the game. |

Corners in is designed to protect against a bunt. To prevent a run from scoring, you need to have your infield in. So the corners in option isn't "useless" or "not working properly", you were just using it in the wrong situation.

I know it supposed to protect against the bunt, but i also think it supposed to stop the run from scoring if hit to the 1B or 3B, at least that's how i've seen it used in numerous other baseball sims.

In this game Corners In stops bunts, Infield In cuts off the run at the plate. This is covered in the manual. (At least it was in OOTP3, I'd assume it was in OOTP4 as well)

I think what is needed is another option: "Infield Halfway". This would set it up like it like smeyers describes. Corners to the plate, up the middle try for the dbl-play.

I couldn't agree more. I really think OOTP is the best baseball sim I have ever played ... however, I cannot believe there is not a "double play depth" setting for your infield.
I suppose infield normal accomplishes the same thing ... but every time an "e" speed rated player beats out a play at first when he hits a double play ball to second or short I always am left scratching my head. If I am missing something, I applogize for my mistake. |

That makes perfect sense ... I had not thought about the fielder's choice aspect. You are correct, unless you start the runner from first, the infielders always try to cut down the lead runner. Thanks for your help!
