Interesting scenario for Korea

If you were the manager of the Korean baseball team going into tonights game versus Japan knowing that nobody really expected you to do much, do you:

A. Play hard and win- US still potentially alive

B. Play hard and lose a low scoring game- US knocked out

With what Ichiro said in the first round, and the Korean's likely desire to stay undefeated I dont think theyll take a dive.

We need Japan to give up 5 or 6 runs (depending on earned runs), and/or Korea to give up 6 or 7 runs. If Japan wins and neither team gives up said amounts we're eliminated. If Japan wins and both teams give up said amounts we have a chance to be in first. If Japan wins and Korea gives up said amount, we have a chance to pass Korea by more than likely shutting out Mexico; we can still finish first depending on how many runs Japan gave up in the game tonight. Im hoping Mexico will help us out Thursday if they've already been eliminated.

Koreas given up 4 runs
Japans given up 5 runs
Mexicos given up 8 runs
USAs given up 10 runs

If Japan loses, and gives up 6 or more runs...we can still lose and move on. However, if that happens and we lose 1-0 or 2-1, Mexico moves on.

Tie-breaking Procedures:

Quote:
A: In Round 1, the Teams in each pool shall be ranked according to the percentages of games won in Round 1. The two Teams with the highest such percentages in each pool shall advance Round 2. In Round 2, the Teams in each pool shall be ranked according to the percentages games won in Round 2, without regard to the results of Round 1. The two Teams with the highest such percentages in each Round 2 pool shall advance to the Semifinal round.

Ties shall be broken in the following order of priority:

The team that defeated the other tied team head-to-head in a given Round shall be ranked higher in the pool standings for such Round.
The tied teams shall be ranked in the standings for that Round according to fewest runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the teams tied.
The tied teams shall be ranked in the standings according to fewest earned runs allowed divided by the number of innings (including partial innings) played in defense in the games in that Round between the teams tied.
The tied teams shall be ranked in the standings according to highest batting average in games in that Round between the teams tied.
Standings shall be determined by the drawing of lots, conducted by WBCI.
Note: Standings and Tie-Breaking Procedures are based on IBAF rules.

Thats a rather ethnocentric question. Korea isn't worried about how they can get the US out of the tourney, they are playing to win. Beating Japan would mean alot more to Korea than knocking out the US. Your not going to tank a game to you rival just so you can get a third team out.

If I were Korea, I'd rather play the United States again than Japan when there's an elimination on the line.
