Keeping Starting pitchers In - i must be getting old
I'm playing the challenge mode and I guess I must be out of
date with the game. I'm managing the SF Giants and my #5 starter keeps getting shelled. Well to me, he's getting shelled - giving up 5 runs before the 3rd inning. I grew up following baseball in the late 70's and early 80's. It seemed to me that pitchers didn't usually give up that many runs. Perhaps with expansion, the depth of pitching has gone down. I find it difficult to keep my starter in if he's already given up more than 5 runs. Is it me or has the game changed? I read that the Rockies kept Neagle in against the Giants after giving up 8 runs in the first inning. Eric |

i'm not that old and i believe that after 5 runs you get the boot, especially if its early in the game. if the guy gives up 5 runs through six innings then thats a differnt story for me.
as for the neagle situation, maybe colorado had no bullpen that day. they probably needed neagle to keep goin i know in OOTP i've left my starter in after he gave up like 8 runs in the first inning b/c my relievers were tired and i needed him to go at least 3 innings. i actually came back in the game only to lose in the ninth. ha, go figure... |

What happened to the good old days where pitching rotations had four pitchers instead of five.
And it was normal for a starting pitcher to make it through the 7th inning. Now if a pitcher logs in 200 innings or gets more than a few complete games, its like a freaking milestone. |
