So, you think you're good at rebuilding?
GABL, an OOTP5 Historic league that is in our 6th season, has the 1982 Baltimore Orioles open. This is a team that has been, mostly terrible, for the entire league's history. After finishing above .500 our first year, 1977, the team has lost 104, 100, 95 and 105 the last 4 years. The team has a fan interest of only 19, HOWEVER, all is not lost. The Orioles have 24 mil cash on hand and are scheduled to make around 17 mil in profit this year. Also, they lose 10 mil in contracts that most likely will not be extended, meaning they should be big players in next years free agency, having around 50 mil to spend on player acquisitions. Also, being bad this long, they've had lots of high draft picks, and they have the #2 minor league system in our league. Darryl Strawberry is a 20 year old rookie that the computer has seen fit to have be a reserve OF in his rookie season. Bret Saberhagen was the 3rd overall pick in this years draft, and he's in the rotation for the O's, albeit struglling mightily. Roy Jones is the #1 spect in our league, having struck out an amazing 195 batters while only walking 10 in 79 innings pitched. Some sort of record I'm sure. The Orioles also have 21 year old John Kruk in their minors as well as 21 year old Don Mattingly, as well as future closer Randy Myers, Darryl Boston and others. The big league club, outside of the 2 rookies aforementioned is led by a "decent" pitching staff. Joe Price is the best starter for right now. Last year, despite posting a 3.41 ERA, he lost 24. He's got a 3.01 ERA thus far this year. 24 year old Mike Boddicker is in his 3rd year and has yet to display his 5 star talent that has the game engine drooling over his potential. Dave Dravecky seems to be fitting into the current closer role after struggling as a swing starter last year. The offense is horrible and really has noone. Straw should be starting every day, and Donnie baseball should probably be up from AAA. It's certainly not hopeless, but there IS work to be done.
GABL is an ootp5 league that sims 3 times/week on a M/W/F schedule, simming on a 7/8/7 game/sim schedule. We recreate real life rookies in the year they were drafted rather than simply importing them "major league ready" in the year they appeared in the majors, as some other historical leagues do. We have a very good core of GM's and it's a "no-drama" league that you'll be sure to enjoy. You can check us out at www.goldenageofbaseball.com and you can reach me at either mandersen@npdodge.com or AIM me at AndersenMat. Thanks for looking.

Bump. Still looking for an Orioles GM. We're in early June 1982, it would be a great time to start re-shaping the team, making moves as trade deadline approaches, etc.

Shameless Bump. We've had interest, but GM's didn't realize IT IS OOTP5. Check out the site, www.goldenageofbaseball.com.
