IN your dynasty writeups I've noticed that you use a LOT of historical events, both fictional and realistic. Also that the depth of such events is jsut mind-blowing. Do you have like a master list that you use for such things? Is it only applicable to US related items? Where did you acquire such information? Is it available for others that may wish to re-enact the 1850 and beyond era?

Thanks for any info that anyone can provide. It would probably make things easier and more entertaining for us historical simmers; the few, the proud, the terminally stuck in the past.

Excellent question. I was wondering the same as I was reading Plague last night. I have never had much trouble finding historical sports references but I never considered the possibility of going to the depth they have with non-sports events in their universes. It really makes for a great read.

creed, I've never been pinged before. That sounds bad....

Anyway, Joe and I both use Wikipedia as our main source. Joe may use other sources that I don't know of, as well. I just type in the year and look at the list of events, extrapolating from there. I generally look ahead a couple seasons to give me ideas, and I spend about 15-20 minutes every day just browsing the histories of various countries, seeing where it takes me. For every idea I've put up, I have about 5 more that I'm saving for later, or that may never even get used.

I'm pretty sure that you can go year by year much further back than the 19th century, so 1850 would be no problem whatsoever

For images, I use Google Image search.

Now do you search by year in wiki, or is there also a section for history by country by year that I've never found (yet). I know that Iv'e foud stuff that that is good, but it's mostly American-centric, which while helpful for most leagues, may cause issue for us silly folks that are doign stuff otuside the US . Either which way, this is a great startfor folks that may be intrested in doign one of their own.

EDIT: Darn you edited yours I'll agree thatit does go back a lot farther then just the 20th century, although sadly the amount of info starts to get skethcy. Lucky for us baseball doesnt' go back farther than the 19th century or we've realyl have issues

Look on the upper right under "1919 by Topic:". Underneath it, there's a section that says "by country". It usually only lists 6-8 countries other than the U.S, but Canada, Australia, Ireland, South Africa and the U.K> seem to always be there. The amount of stuff isn't as much as the U.S. stuff, but it's better than nothing.

Wikipedia's my source for non-baseball events. There are several places for baseball, but my favorite is baseball library.

As Pete said, I also use Wikipedia for a lot of things. I also have a fairly large library of books on various historical topics that I use occasionally, and I've been known to google some topics if wikipedia doesn't give me enough.

I think that while wiki is a great start, havign such tomes of knowledge would be a great addition to us writers that get mroe in-depth with our creations. I knwo that I've had issue trying to find specific things in wiki that if I had a book or two on the subject I'd probably be able to find the answer.

Sadly not eveyone of us has access to such detailed items.
