Black players in an historic league
I have the idea of starting a league of alternative history along these lines: There had never been a color line in major league baseball. Black players were part of the game from 1901 onwards.
Therefore in addition to the players provided by the Lehman database an additional number of black players have to be in cluded. I like to have the ideas of the community how to achieve it. There are a number of questions: 1. Where can you find the names of black players (esp 1900-1920) and of those one or notches notch below the HOF level? 2. What percantage of black players would seem realistic ( 10-20%)? 3. I guess the statistics from Negro leagues are hard to relate to Major league statitics, therefore I let OOTP create a certain number of fictional players and rename the players, so that the best random generated rating go the best black rookie player. In this case you only have to make a ranking of black players for every rookie class. But can you import fictional players into an histroical league? I am grateful for any interst in this idea and your input. |

Maybe importing Negro league players will suite your needs better. Someone on this board spoke about a Negro leagues database a few days ago. Perhaps a search for the topic will give leads on where to find the database. Several gamers have talked bout something along the lines of what you described. Sounds like a fun idea to me.

You will want to be careful when using the Negro League Player database. Since accurate information for these players are hard to come by, they usually import with significantly higher ratings than other players. Many of them also import at a much older age than the prime of their career so you would have to make some adjustments.
If you would rather go the route of editing fictional players there are a couple of websites that may help you out: www.blackbaseball.com www.negroleaguebaseball.com Good luck with your idea... |
