Bummer!

With 900ABs already in his career (.302/34HRs) , I opted to devote 21yr old phenom Enrique "Einstein" Lopez's 4th season to the minor leagues, hoping to teach him a new position or two, as I already had two other "true" 3Bs on the active roster. Lopez took a good deal of time learning how to play SS, but I imagine his $8 million salary (FA after contracting to 24 teams 2 seasons ago) helped him stay focused. Lopez was chomping at the bit to get back in the majors, hitting .417 with 47HRs during his stint in AAA. I didn't think he was ever going to make the transition, but on July 28th, just in time for the trading deadline, Lopez was ready to go.
After making necessary trades, Lopez was called up July 31st for Houston's game against Washington (where one of his 3B competitors had been traded). Slated to bat third, Lopez was sure to have a great game and be a pivotal force in Houston's championship run.
In the top of the 1st, Lopez steps up for his first major league at bat in nearly 10 months. Journeyman SP James Padgett winds up to throw, pitches and on the first pitch WHAM!!! No, that wasn't the sound of Lopez knocking his first longball of the season, but more like Lopez's cheekbone shattering off a Padgett fastball.
OUT FOR SEVEN WEEKS with a cheekbone fracture! I suppose we'll have to wait until mid-September to see what this guy can do now. With the deadline passed now, Houston will have to rely on untested rookie Rod Peterson to step up at SS. What an unfortunate turn of events on the first pitch!

just another example of what makes this game so interesting to keep playing, you never know what will happen.

Hopefully, we'll be able to really teach a player a new position in ST (now that we can play out games without that point-allocation stuff) and we won't have to see these types of things where we send high-priced 5-star proven studs to the minors to learn a new position.
