Off Topic - Cards
I spent almost the entire day yesterday working on my homemade boxing cards. I redesigned the template and organized a whole new set of larger photos for them. I wish I could slow down the clock on weekends.
Anyway, while trolling the internet, I came across these really beautiful baseball and boxing trading cards produced by a small US beer and snack food company in the States called Helmar. Real shame they aren't produced by a cards company that sells in my area. Instead of photos, they've used paintings similar to the old timey Goudey, CrackerJack and Turkey Reds. These cards are little works of art. Worth a looksee if you have a minute. Cap

i've seen those on ebay before. thought about picking up a set because they are very nice looking for the price, but i decided not to stray from the older sets that i like going after. i did finish the boxing side of the T218's and plan on working on the 1951 Ringside set soon. It's a lot of fun for those of you who haven't dabbled in sports cards and boxing cards offer great bang for the buck.

Just a follow-up to the homemade cards. The template I uploaded here somewhere can easily be adjusted to allow for re-design. After a lot of looking around and some trial-and-error, I've found that a sheet of GBC self-adhesive laminate seems to work pretty well. I've put it on just the picture-side of the cards and they look semi-professional. (In fact, if I found them at my local corner store, wrapped in the waxed paper with a stick of gum, I'd buy them myself.
) I suspect the card companies use some sort of industrial spray-on varnish.Cap

Remember when you were a kid coming out of the corner store with your packs of cards, ripping them open and smelling that bubble-gum smell? Huddling with your pals and seeing who had what.
Guess the next step is to find waxed paper wrappers instead of cellophane. I've got a pack of "Parkies" sitting here that have the old-style packaging, bright yellow with big blue and red lettering. Cool. That TB idea sounds good. Cap
