OOTP Setup Problems

Ok...this is my situation. I use Windows 98SE and have been running an online leauge with OOTP 5, 6, and now 6.5. Lately, I've been having problems getting online, but my OOTP has been working fine. Well... I decided to install a new hard drive, and use my old hard drive as a secondary drive. When I atempted to open OOTP 6.5 it prompted me to enter my order#. Well...I entered my order#, and I received a message stating that the license for OOTP6 did not exist on my computer. So I entered the order# for version 6 as well. As soon as I did that, the game crashed, and I get the "illegal operation" message anytime I try opening either version of the game. I downloaded a new version on my new drive, and I get the same message when I attempt to open it.

Any ideas on what I can do now?

You need to have the game on the main drive, not the slave. The liscense works with the Windows Registry and there are some paths that need to be maintained. If you move the software off the main drive ( i.e. not C: ) then you will run into these types of problems. Put the game back at its default install on the C: drive under Program Files.

This might not be true for Windows XP but 98SE is an operating system that was engineered by the special bus. Not your fault, I blame Bill Gates.

Thanks for the response. I initially thought that was my problem, but I'm not sure now. I did install the game on the c drive under program files, and it still won't allow me to open the program.

Well, let me think......

Have you tried a complete uninstall? It is also possible that you might need to un-liscense a previous install.

I did run the "unwise" file on both the 6 and 6.5 versions on my slave drive. I don't know ho to unlicense a previous install. How would I do that?

Unwise only removes the files from your machine but not always the registrey keys. Talk to the e-license company for further help because I am not exactly sure. I think that they can probably help you get started doing that. Then download the files from scratch and reinstall. That should fix you. If you need other help, let me know

I've been e-mailing the e-license company back and forth all day, and they haven't been able to help me at all. I've tried re-downloading the game again, and I still get the "illegal operation" error when I attempt to open the game.
