I'm boycotting baseball until Peter Angelos is no longer the Orioles owner.

How about them O's last night? I'm worried about Rodrigo though and our injuries are starting to mount. I'm angry every time I see Corey Patterson in an O's uniform, even if he did hit a home run last night. Ramon Hernandez is looking like a genius signing even though I doubted it at the time. And Jay Gibbons is the man, for sure.

A co-worker insists that Cabrera is going to "win Cy Young awards". As in not one, but two, three, four, or more. I'm doubtful.

(Nice av, Russ.)

twas his fibula and I'm sure we can manage to locate a suitable 49 year old has been to replace him.
I really don't understand what PA talks about, he keeps claiming the Orioles make a loss but is clear from other sources that the team makes a profit.

Although I hate to say it... I see the O's going the same way as they did last year.

I'm just hoping Bedard and Markakis give us a few games of joy before it all turns to hell again.

Be good if you could have a vote of no confidence and evict Angelo as the owner.

ok rant over... calm now

Typical O's fan pessimism. I understand after 7 years of futility that you would think the O's are going to be fighting for 4th place. But at least they seem like they're fun to watch this year.

We're pessimistic because optimism has kicked us between the legs so many times before.

It blows my mind that people still make excuses for this team.

I remember the off-season that Belle's contract came off the books and they were supposed to make a huge splash. In signing Miguel Tejada and Javy Lopez, they did. And had they also landed Vlad Guerrero, who knows what this team would have been capable of doing? (Tejada and Guerrero are arguably top-5 AL offensive players, top-10 in the entire league. And it broke my heart not to get Guerrero, who has always been my favorite ball player.)

But, they missed out on Guerrero. And since then, what have they done?

Ramon Hernandez was a good addition. (Personally, he's been my favorite catcher, so I loved it.) But what else? Kevin Millar? Jeff Conine? Wasting money on Jay Gibbons and not forking any over to Melvin Mora? Those are just flat-out idiotic management decisions.

I give the team a bye on Palmeiro and Sosa, if for no other reason than the risk/reward on both guys was pretty reasonable. The majority thought those guys would provide huge dividends in that park. They didn't and they cut the losses. I credit the front office for not clinging to hope.

But they've done nothing to make this team competitive since Tejada and Lopez. Nothing.

Those two guys aren't going to win games on their own -- Lopez can barely stay healthy. They haven't made any moves to add pitching and have done hardly anything to improve an otherwise terrible outfield. (Corey Patterson has upside, but Jay Gibbons? C'mon.)

All the credit in the world for changing managerial slots around -- giving Perlozzo a go and bringing in Mazzone. But this team has done a horrible job of player personnel and the fact that the wind seemed to be knocked out of their sails after losing out on Guerrero shows me that they have/had no plan whatsoever.

I put this elsewhere, but re: the Os and $$ -- see http://www.maurybrown.com/?p=122 and the article(s) linked therein.
