I can't wait to see darkhorse try and spin this one

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Rangers have acquired Adam Eaton, Akinori Otsuka and a prospect from the Padres in return for Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez and Terrmel Sledge.

I hope it's a really good prospect.

Very odd that the Rangers think Eaton is a better pitcher than Chris Young.

I don't really like this deal, not so much in giving up Young for Eaton, but giving up one of the Rangers best trade chips in Adrian Gonzalez in this deal as well. Plus the OF depth is gone again giving up Sledge.

One note is, Eaton is much more of a groundball pitcher than Young. That may be part of it. Plus I wonder if they aren't thinking hitters were starting to figure Young out near the end of last year. He is afterall a rookie pitcher and you never know if some of the rookie glean had worn off and hitters started figuring him out.

Still, not sure I like it overall, but I'll reserve my judgment I guess until I see how Eaton and Young do, but on the whole I think Rangers lose this one.

Billy Beane is secretly controlling the minds of other GM's in the AL West.

I didn't think it was possible for a trade to be stranger than Bradley/Perez for Ethier. I was wrong.

BJ Ryan $47 million
Ramon Hernandez $6 gazillion

Forget statheads and old-school. What we've got in baseball right now is anarchy. Nihilism. Entropy? Somethin'.

While I think he could have recieved much more for these guys... I'm by no means defending this deal... I can see the logic in dealing them.

Young is a right handed extreme fly ball pitcher. He's not a good fit for Texas at all... and he actually lucked out bigtime last year home run wise.

Isn't Adrian Gonzalez percieved as a pretty big prospect in general?? I mean, his numbers look pretty good, but he doesn't look to have all that much power for a 1B/DH type.

Sledge is the type of guy that I think has less percieved value than actual value... evidenced by the Nats not playing him much last year (edit: just remembered he was injured last year... whoops)... so I wouldn't have dealt him.

This is a bad trade for Texas though, regardless. I think Daniels had the right idea dealing Young before Arlington destroyed his percieved value... but he should have got way more.

Perhaps, but, when you adjust for park, Eaton flat out sucks.

Oh yea... he sucks bad... hence me saying I wasn't defending the deal. I was just trying to give one possibility as to why Daniels wanted to deal him.

I can't wait to see the numbers Eaton puts up in the AL. He's going to get hammered.

Young and Adrian could have landed Texas way more than Eaton and crap, and Texas actually wasn't doing bad this offseason vis a vis Soriano for Wilkerson.

Maybe they just wanted to add back some of the salary they shedded trading Sori?
