Talking New Orleans: Mui League Baseball

A career league that I started in 1937 so I could develop a history. I am using the Baseball Boom era as that's when I fell in love with the game and also to get equal stats as the eras change.

I am playing with fictional teams and all fictional players in this particular league.

New Orleans started their career with an amatuer draft, selecting P Jessie Hernandez with their #1 pick. He struggled to a 4-7 career mark in limited opportunities before being traded away after 3 seasons in the Big Easy. N.O. concluded their first season with an 86-70 record (staying true to the 156 game schedule) and finished first in the AL South. The entered the postseason with minimal expectations but beat Jacksonville 3-1, then ousted Sacramento 4-1 in the LCS before finally edging state rival Houma 4-2 in the 6 game Series to bring home their first title.

Donnie Sanchez won Rookie of the Year honors with a .324 average, 28 home runs and an even 100 RBI.

(more to come..time to eat dinner)

1938 saw the New Orleans club jump to an elite level. They upped their record to 103-53 and finished first in the AL South for the second straight season.

New Orleans marched through Peoria 3-1 in the divisional round before falling to Macon 4-2 in the LCS.

Donnie Sanchez won the AL MVP award with a .375 average, 40 home runs and 141 RBI.

Ken Madison, the teams 2nd round pick in the initial draft, set a league record with 51 homers and 177 RBI. His .301 average was all that kept him from winning MVP honors.

New Orleans headed into 1939 with high hopes and revenge on their minds after being ousted in the ALCS by Macon last season.

They finished the '39 season with a duplicate 103-53 record and their pitching finally kicked in. Ralph Robinson stepped up as the staff ace, coming off a 19-7 campaign, and posted a staggering 32-5 Win/Loss record; setting a Mui League record for Wins. His ERA 2.16, coupled with 9 shutouts, helped earn Ralph the Cy Young award for the season.

Ken Madison abused baseballs for the New Orleans offense; hitting 42 homers with 147 RBI while pounding the hits out at a .303 clip.

New Orleans swept Albany 3-0 and gained a measure of revenge by eliminating Macon 4-3 in a closely contested LCS. They moved on to clinch their second Series win in three years by defeating Harrisburg in a 4-3 nailbiter.

New Orleans entered the 1940 season on a huge high. Their second Series victory in 3 seasons plus the return of all their major stars. They responded well.

Ralph Robinson followed up his career season with an impressive 27-5 record, with 7 more shutout and 2.31 ERA. This also included his first no-hitter; a 1 walk, 6 K performance.

Donnie Sanchez continued the New Orleans control of the AL MVP category by winning his second with a .375 BA, 44 HR and 126 RBI.

The club upped the ante by improving their record to 113-43. The defeated Sacramento 3-2, moved on to win the LCS 4-3 over Danville and capped off their third title with a 4-2 win over Redding.

1941...miraculously Japan didn't attack Pearl Harbor as OOTP continues to change history. New Orleans, with 3 Series wins in the leagues first 4 seasons, is a dynasty.

After having to let a few of their stars go to Free Agency to comply with the house rules and the self imposed salary cap; New Orleans set league history with all 4 of their starters winning 20+ games. Ralph Robinson continued his dominance with a 23-2 record and winning his 3rd Cy Young award. Both losses were 1 run affairs in which the offense failed to produce a single run. 3rd year FA acquisition Al Deems went 20-8, bringing his record with N.O. to 62-23. #3 starter Steve Miskell went 23-7 for his 2nd 20 win season with the club. 2nd year FA Orlando Black also hit the 20 win plateau, at 21-7 bringing his Big Easy career mark to 41-13.

Closer Hugh Johnson continued to set the tone in the bullpen, saving 39 games and bringing his career save mark to 190 over 5 seasons.

Donnie Sanchez continued to pound the ball in '41, hitting .334 with 33 bombs and 104 RBI.

Of the 9 pitchers to win 20 games in the 4 year history of Mui League, New Orleans has 7 of them.

J-Boo, sorry I never replied to this. You must think I'm a jerk. I actually had to reinstall my game and lost this league. So I never came back to post on it.

Anyway, New Iberia used to be part of my stomping grounds. I'm outside of the Red Stick city nowadays.

I don't remember if I actually gave the club a nickname, I created a fictional league and New Orleans was one of the default cities so I went with them.
