Question Will there be any help in the manual/tutorial for Baseball newbies?

I know of a few FM/WWSM players who want to play this game but are put off by all the stats and all the constant small adjustments in tactics used in baseball.

I know in EHM this issue was addressed to a degree of sucess.

Will ootp 2006 have a guide either in the tutorial or manual to help newbies slide into the stats and tactics etc of baseball?

I'm sure there will be but you can get a lot of help from the OOTP community.

It is amazing to what lengths this community goes to help out each other.

Many times someone has gone to great lengths to help me (computer-challenged) download logos, create logos, post a logo in a thread, etc.

They wrote out lengthy, step-by-step procedures to help me accomplish what I needed. One guy even included each screen that I would encounter and explained each screen.

Baseball will take some time to learn. You may be overwhelmed with the stats and strategies, but you can master it. Even as slow as I am, I might one day try CM. I am sure I would be lost for quite some time trying to get acquainted with the game of Football (English style).

Suggestion: Go to this great baseball website (Baseball-Reference.com) and get familiar with these baseball statistical terms...see the Glossary for each category and it will give you definitions for each stat.

You can click on "Glossary" on some pages and get an explanation of each stat.

Batting Glossary: http://www.baseball-reference.com/ab...glossary.shtml

Special Batting Glossary: http://www.baseball-reference.com/ab....shtml#special

Fielding Glossary: http://www.baseball-reference.com/ab...glossary.shtml

Pitching Glossary: http://www.baseball-reference.com/ab...glossary.shtml

Sample page for a pitcher: http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/mussimi01.shtml

Sample page for a batter: http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/ripkeca01.shtml

Also go to a public library and get a good book on the basics of baseball or search on the Internet for baseball terminology or baseball stats.

Good luck and welcome to the great OOTPB Community.

I attempted to create a beginner's guide in Sort It Out, SI's forum here:

http://www.sortitoutsi.net/forums/in...howtopic=14022

The premise was that most American kids learned about the game by watching it with their dads and said dads explained everything as it happened? So I played a game of OOTP5, and not only explained everything that happened, but did so in mind that readers may be managing themselves, so there's some beginning strategy in there. Some links to pictures of both the OOTP5 game and to photos of baseball players to help out.

I used two real teams with a real roster pack, so newbies will have names to latch onto that they can in real life as well.

On top of it, the game I played ended up being a barnburner.

Boilermaker, that is a great post.

The pictures are really a nice touch.

It is a very fine introduction to baseball.

Well done.

I think it would be a good idea for us to use the community for this. We're writing a manual, but it's a good community incentive.

Let me sit on this and I'll get back to you all
