Unbelievable contract

Just started out a 16 team fictional league, I'm using a ratio of 50% real players and 50% computer generated players...so it took a while to setup because I use real players from all generations and I input them myself....though I do enjoy that tedious process (what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment...using 6.51 also)

Any, my 2nd season an established Japanese player moved to the U.S. and entered the free-agent market (all computer generated, which I though was super cool)....

he signed a whopping 7 year deal for $37.516 million per year!!

I don't remember the specifics of how I setup the financials in the league...but I used recommended numbers from threads I saw here....

(By the way...he did win the MVP in his first season....his numbers were something like .321 avg with 47 homers and 110+ rbi and 127 walks....he did decline a bit his second season but still a good season...just no way worth what he's being paid)

Everytime I think the OTPB has gone too far with a contract I simply turn to the Chicago Tribune sports page.

$13 million per year for Rafael Furcal - a lifetime .284 hitter. With today's pitching I could hit .284!

$6 million per year for Kyle Farnsworth! Of course it's the Yankees, but this guy can do nothing in the clutch.

My 2010 Cubs are 90-30 and are 25th in payroll. As soon as a player asks for a ridiculous contract he's gone for prospects.

well...to tell you the truth, I don't mind the huge contract, cause odds are it will hurt the team before its through...and thats the chance they took to overpay this player....

At 34 years old at the time of the extension, one of the best players in my league's history received a 4-year contract extension at $23,160,000 per year. His previous contract was 6 years at the same price per year. I'm not using 6.5 though, so maybe something is different.

I just signed Antonio Oropesa to a 6 year contract worth $33,000,001 per year. He was my #1 pick in 2000 and has become the heart of my order. I didn't have enough to resign him in 2005, but I didn't deal him at the deadline and he helped lead us to our 3rd World Series title. The biggest reason I gave him so much money is that I was bidding against a team in the same division and I didn't want to face this guy. This particular league has been a blast as I only make a few trades and most of my core players have been drafted and brought through my system. Anyways check Oropesa out, he's 27. Do you think I overpaid?

I agree. He's a great player, and he's worth a small fortune, but more like a max of about half of what you gave him.

The length of the contract is fine, but the dollar amound is nuts.

EDIT: This seems to be the constant dilemma for all OOTP users. Set the cash max too high and you get ridiculous contracts. Set the cash max too low and stud players are left on the FA market at the start of the season. As far as I know, no one has been able to nail it exactly.

Actually I think SkyDog's setting of $14 million works very well. The next highest player in this league has a contract half of what he does. This was just a fluky thing where I didn't have enough money to resign him during the season. His starting asking price was like $15 million. Remington was the team I was bidding against.

Remington had just freed up a ton of money and I actually outbid me when I bid $31 million. I would have let him go except that I've become somewhat attached to him and I didn't want him in the same division. I ended up trading off two players worth $20 million and bringing up some young guns I had waiting in the wings.

Update: Oropesa just helped lead us to our fourth World Title and he also won his 3rd MVP in 6 years.

I'm in an online league where a guy like the one Faroo posted is awesome, and I've been in leagues where he is definitely a good player, but he's one of twenty like him in the league. There is variance from league to league.

It all depends on the economics of your league. If there's a lot of free cash around, I've seen big $$ contracts before..

I"ve been pretty happy with the results I've been getting with a $10 million cash limit for teams. I've haven't as yet seen contracts with amounts this bad.
