Injury Rating
I have a stud pitcher who won the Cy Young award the past 2 seasons.
In his first game of the new season he sprained his rotator cuff or something like that and is only 70% good to go now. It was just prior to his injury that I noticed his "Injury Rating" was "Prone". I had not noticed him being prone to injury before this year. Does the injury rating change? Is it possible he wasn't prone to injury in prior seasons, but now he is? |

It does change. I think it tends to happen with player injuries when the guy is at least a little into his 30's. How old was your player in this situation?
EDIT - Hmm, andjbock's link indicated maybe older players are not the only ones who could have this happen. I had a 1B in my league that was averaging about 45-50 HR per season, but he got hit with an injury in his 32yo of 33yo season, and within a year or so he was released and not getting signed out the free agent pile ending up retiring after a 3 AB season at AAA as a 35yo with 487 career HR in the big leagues, 475 of them before turning 34yo. Injury rating seems to change with age, and with injuries. A guy who gets an injury sometimes seems to become more prone to additional injuries. An aging player who gets an injury is even more likely to find himself now rated as injury prone.

Thanks for the input guys
My pitcher just turned 30 I believe. I think that injury ratings should change the more a guy gets hurt and the older he gets. Something I need to watch out for now that I know about it...and all this after I signed the guy toa 7 yr contract a year ago. |

I wonder if there's any correlation between signing long-term contracts and more injuries or a switch to prone... cuz that's who it always seems to happen to.

Same thing happened to me in our online league. Went from Normal to Prone the begining of one season. So far he's only had 1 injury since then in a few seasons and he barely missed a week.
I have not seen it go the other way! TM

While I am not happy to lose a guy in that situation, I like the 'can you recover from a major loss to your team' thing that occurs when that happens.
My current team that I play game by game suffered 3 season ending injuries to players my 1st year and it caused me to make some trades to cover their spots. I ended up getting some good players out of the deal. Speaking of injuries, I just traded away a great outfielder for a pretty good staring pitcher. In his first start he pitches two innings, just allowing a walk and suffers an injury. With my heart pounding a little fast, I was releived to see it was just a week injury. Which I hate, because it is too short to put him on the DL, which I love to do, so I can bring up one of those minors to spot start a game! At least he will just miss one, maybe 2 starts. Quote:
