Second Chance Database
This morning I uploaded a new database to BaseballSimCentral. Within a few days it should show up here:
http://files.simcentral.net/index/Ou...ark_6/Rosters/ I call it the second chance database. Here's how it works. I removed all players who had long-term careers. To be eligible for inclusion players had to meet one of two requirements: 1. Career ended before age 30 OR 2. Batters: Less than 3000 AB Pitchers: Starters for more than 1/2 of games: Less than 1000 IP Relievers for more than 1/2 of games: Less than 400 IP Players enter the league THE YEAR AFTER they retired from MLB. The idea is to give them a second chance to prove themselves, without the big guns around. I played around and had some fun seeing monster careers from guys I'd never heard of. One of the interesting aspects is that guys who had more significant MLB time get less time, while guys who had a cup of coffee at age 22 get a chance at a full career. The stats imported are based on players' careers. Since some guys are importing close to 40 years old, they just decline. Other guys go through the normal development process. The version I uploaded is sort of a prototype. You have to start in the year 1981, or you won't have enough guys. That's just because it's what I used for a league I set up. I had it import anyone who would have qualified from 1972-1981. I'm going to work on a file that allows for import in any year by giving everyone 10 years of stats to work with. For anyone who gives it a try, I'd recommend lengthening player decline. Ages are skewed older, so it helps. If anyone tries it, let me know what you think or if there are improvements you'd like to see. I can't say I'll get to them for sure (life is busy these days), but it would be nice to know.

You've been talking about this for a while now. Glad it's finally out.

The idea of the other one is to take every player and average each of his seasons with his career average. So, if you take a guy who hit an average of 20 homers a year and there's a year he had 40, in the database he'd have 30 for that year. The idea of that one is to make guys import closer to their mean ability, and for guys who came up with one or two AB to get rated close to how they really were. My new computer does computations a LOT faster than my old one, so doing this stuff has suddenly become much easier.

what I am doing for my league is adding two years (more in some cases) to everyone's birthday which makes them two years younger.
I started a similar database, only I was manually entering stats for each player based on numerous factors including MLB and minor league performance. Remarkeable this database almost mirrors the online league I am running. I may be able to use it to import rookies in the future.

I wonder why my file hasn't shown up yet. It's been quite a while since I uploaded it.
