So can the Colts be perfect

I mean so far its been a simple schedule. Some of you may of felt the monday game against the Patriots was overhyped but so far that been their biggest test. I mean the have Pittsburgh and then who?

Can we be seeing the second perfect season ever?

It's going to be very, very tough for any team, in modern football, to go unbeaten. However, it could happen...

It won't happen. They've got a tough schedule coming up, and if they finish 13-3, it won't say anything very bad about them at all.

Well, as a son of someone from the 72 Dolphins team, let's just say my family sure as hell hopes they can't pull it off. They only really have 4-5 games that they could possibly stumble on in the regular season. Here's the schedule:

vs Houston - WIN
at Cincy - I'd rate it a 4 out of 10 on possibility of a loss
vs Pittsburgh - I'd give it a 6, 8 if it was in Pittsburgh
vs Tennessee - WIN
at Jax - a 3.
vs San Diego - I think the best bet for a loss. They'd be 13-0, pressure mounting, and the Chargers are a good football team that can't afford too many more losses
at Seattle - a 5 out of 10, 6+ if they clinch and rest some guys
vs Arizona - Do they rest Manning, Harrison and Edge, or go for the undefeated regular season? Would it even matter?

In my mind, the WORST thing that can happen, is they go 16-0 in the regular season, get to the Super Bowl at 18-0 and lose. Then we'll have endless debates on which team was better, unfair comparisons between a 1972 team and a 2005 team, blah blah blah. Some idiotic experts will say the Colts are more impressive, winning 18...etc etc etc....and they'll be way wrong.

But I'm not biased or anything.

Either way, Manning can throw up clunkers occasionally, and while the D is good, it's only been a 1/2 season. I think my Dad and I will be drinking champagne at some point.

So your Dad's Bob Heinz, huh?

Makes that #72 jersey that much cooler, I've gotta say.

Yeah, it's ridiculous how many #72 jerseys get sent to him to sign. Pretty cool coincidence.

no offense to heinz's son, but i'd love to see it happen so i don't have to hear about them getting together and celebrating when the last team loses anymore. good lord. i read somewhere where the 72 dolphins had one of the top 3 easiest schedules EVER, not just for a championship team, but EVER.

they had two opponents with winning records, their opponents winning % was .396

give them their due, they won all the games they were scheduled to play, but then again, so did BYU in 1984 (generally regarded as one of the weakest national champions in the past 50 years)

again - no offense to jeheinz meant (although i'm sure he'll take offense, as i would if my dad played for them).

I, too, cheer whenever the last undefeated team in the NFL falls. I like having my favourite team remain the only one with an undefeated record.

None taken. It is what it is. On one hand, they had an easy schedule, something out of their control. On the other, they lined up 17 games, and won 17 games. Something no NFL team has done to this point.

They played 17 games, 5 against .500+ teams (2 reg. season, both 8-6, and 3 playoffs, a 10-4 team and 2 11-3 teams) and 3 more against .500 teams (7-7 Jets twice and 7-7 Chiefs), basically teams that are over .500 if not for their losses against Miami.

They also led the league in Offensive Points, Offensive Yards, Defensive points allowed and Defensive yards allowed.

I understand the argument, but IMO, it's still 17 games and 17 wins, and no one can definitively say that any other team in the league that they didn't play would have beaten them.

I'd also like to see the '72 Dolphins no longer talked about, but only because I live in South Florida and don't like the Dolphins. Extra press for them annoys me. I'd agree with jeheinz's assessment though. Can't fault them for what they did.

I can empathize. I'm a Dolphins fan living way out in California, in Niner territory. Needless to say, I have a large disdain for the Niners, and the majority of their fans. I relish in their current situation.

vs Houston - WIN
at Cincy - They showed when Pittsburgh played them that they aren't a top team yet, Indy wins.
vs Pittsburgh - the biggest chance for a loss
vs Tennessee - WIN
at Jax - WIN
vs San Diego - the second biggest chance for a loss
at Seattle - Win
vs Arizona - Even if they do rest everyone, it is Arizona and Indy has a chance. If Indy lets their starters play for the first half and then rest it should be a win no problem.

I'm not saying it will happen but this is the best chance a team may ever have of going undeafeated.

Probably right. And if they did it, they'd basically be lined up to play teams they've already beaten in the playoffs (NE, SD, PIT) and at home, until the Super Bowl.
