Happy Halloween From Pete Carroll

From the Pasadena News:

"Don't know if you heard about this but Monday night, USC tailback LenDale White quit the football team and shouted profanities from the roof of a nearby building before fighting with a staff member. Then before anyone could do anything, the staff member threw LenDale off the roof! Utter horror was the general feeling of onlookers until it became known that it was only a dummy of LenDale that fell four floors -- all a pre-planned Halloween joke by USC coach Pete Carroll. Unfortunately not everybody thought it was funny. Many team members thought it was for real. Linebacker Oscar Lua said, "That was horrible. What was that about?" But it seems the school administration is okay with it. No disciplinary action is expected. And it was Halloween."

Yeah, I heard about this story and thought it was funny. All in all, a pretty good joke.

Reminds me of actress Randi Ingerman appearing on the Italian equivalent of Candid Camera and being punk'd into believing that her husband had been unfaithful. Too bad she miscarried. But, hey, it was a joke!

Well if one of the Trojans miscarries, I'll apologize for laughing.

With proper use, it seems unlikely.

I worked with some of the most jokin'est, prankin'est mofos ever while I was at my last duty station in the Marines.

But there were a few things that were generally off limits--joking about any kind of death or about any thing that would majorly screw up a career. Practical jokes aren't too funny when everyone has empathy for a target who is totally distraught or are distraught themselves as a result.

Not that what Carroll did is a big deal or that he should be punished...it just wasn't funny.

News flash: Football coach does something stupid....what ARE the odds?

People will most definitely come.

I saw the footage and there is no way anyone could think an actual body went off that roof...the dummy basically "floated" down to the ground.

Interesting thing about this is that I bet anyone on the team would believe LenDale White would be upset at his lack of playing time. I mean the guy is a pretty good back but he gets almost no run because of Bush and Leinart. There are a number of schools out there where he would be the featured back.

I heard from some radio personality that's why they did it that way, because White had kind of grumbled about playing time earlier.

Also heard they originally talked to Reggie Bush about it, but he's afraid of heights and wouldn't go up on the building.
