nicknames

If you are like me, you give your players nicknames to make the PBP more interesting. When choosing between 2 potential draft picks, I'll go w/ the guy nicknamed "Yoda" every time.

Some of my favorites are Horatio Ramirez ("Ho-Ram"), Grady Sizemore "Size matters") and Brandon "baby got" Bache. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this!!!

Yeah, I occasionally give nicknames to players in my fictional leagues.

It does make the pbp a little more interesting.

I just don't overdo it.

Has anyone else considered adding some of the nicknames to the regular first name file? I'm considering putting things like "Black-Eyed Pete", "Happy Jack", or "Vinegar Tom" as a player's first name rather than have him called Jeff "Vinegar Tom" Winstrom. Of course, his first initial would be wrong on a lot of screens. Solemn Bill Teague would be S.Teague but I'm not sure I mind that much. Any opinions?

I was actually going to ask for suggestions on nicknames. I have a hot prospect 1B who is coming into his own in his 4th (!) season at 22 (!!) years of age.

Name: Frank Das

He's a big lefty who can also catch. Was originall called up the year he was drafted at 18 to fill a dire need at firstbase. Hit pretty mediocre but was all I had. Came back as a starter the next two years only to tank for half a season each year before being sent down to AAA. Now in his fourth season he spent the first half mashing in AAA before coming up in July. He had a horrid first month up but now is mashing for the first time in the majors. He needs a nickname.

It would probably be okay, especially if your league is set in way back in the 'good old days'. A lot of players were better known by their nicknames than their first names to the point where their first names were rarely used (Babe Ruth, Dizzy Dean, Pepper Martin, Bobo Newsom, etc.). Not too many modern players have that colorful moniker, which is a bit of a shame, but with guys like Milton Bradley and Coco Crisp, we may not need 'em!

Or if it's pronounced Dahz, how about Frank (Hoggin) Das?

"The Wizard of Das"

Of course, that's just the kind of nickname that doesn't really fit in OOTP. You'd see him listed as Frank "The Wizard of Das" Das. Not to mention the nickname is too long to fit in OOTP.

I drafted a five star prospect a while ago with the Nickname "Pizza". It was a no-brainer....except he flopped after one season.

Or, if you're up on your German, "Vas Ist" Das?

I just nicknamed my best pitcher "Ace" because believe me, he is. It is his rookie season, and he is 12-0 with a 1.27 ERA, 47K's, and 10 BB. I am half way through my current season. No other pitcher in the league has been nicknamed "Ace" and it fit.

He's 12-0 and averaging less than 4 Ks a start?? Man, he must have some interesting ratings.

Is it just me?

Game-assigned nickname. Sometimes it seems a perfect fit. Or is it just me?

Actually, less than 4K's per win. I'm sure his starts are even a greater number making me really curious about this guy's overall ratings.
