Post Developing a player defensively

Hey fellas! I haven't been around in awhile. Been busy with stuff, online leagues, etc...but I have an important question:

I have a player that I drafted last year as an 18 year old who is a 3B. With the new, very cool way of "teaching" players new positions in the minors, I have elected to "teach" him SS, because I will be needing one soon. Once he learns the position and is most likely given a range of "E" at SS, how in the heck will I ever be able to INTENTIONALLY improve on his defense at SS. I assume he will ALWAYS be listed as third being his natural position, so if I decided to give him points to improve his defense during spring training, won't it only improve his D at 3B?? I'm just thinking ahead here. I mean, if he is going to only have a range of E for the rest of his career at SS, it kind of makes me wonder if it is worth it. Surely there is a way to improve his D at SS??

Sometimes players get really old, and they suck at defense to the point where they'll let the ball through their legs at critical points in the World Series? Bitter? Naw...

Ideally he is a no-power player, that way you can zero out power hitting to add to defense practise.

Note: To switch primary position just click on the "position" spot on the player screen.

Thanks for the thoughts, Killer. I'm still a little confuzzed though. I have this guy in my online league, so I can't just edit him to change his primary position (if I am understanding correctly).

Also, since he does have decent ratings for power, I am a little leary of zeroing out his power to help improve his D. If I am not mistaken, this DOES, CAN, and WILL make a difference on OOTP4. I know it was not a big deal in OOTP3, but I am playing in OOTP4. Am I making any sense?

If a player can play more than one position just bring up his info screen and click where it says position and it will cycle through the positions he can play and you can select his primary position. If your league does FTP uploading you should be able to make this change and upload your team.

I think I'm with you on this. Must be a feature that I was unaware of. I suppose it will make more sense to me when I get home and try it out.

Nope, you can change his primary position at any time. Assuming of course, that he can play more than one.

You can change the primary position of any position player at any time. THe pitchers are the only ones that you can only change at the end of the season (pitcher role), and thats to prevent changing middle releavers to closers to bump their trade value.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong as I am not 100% sure.

If this is in an online league then you can't change the position yourself. Your league file won't transfer if you do. You'll need to find out your league's rules on changing primary position and ask the commissioner to do it.
